Hello,

Just wondered if anyone could offer some advice. I have a 1993 XT600E with an intermittent electical fault I am trying to track down.

Occasionally it will loose ignition power completely (No lights, no neutral light won't turn over).

It has only happened a few times however seems to happen after changing gear. If I leave the bike for about 5-10 minutes after it dies then everything works as normal?

I have cleaned all of the electrical plugs. Am I right in thinking this may be a neutral sender switch issue. I took the switch unit out and gave it a clean however it has still happened since. If I unplug the bullet connector that goes down to the switch I get the same fault conditions, thus my thinking it is something to do with this?

Any advice offered would be greatly appreciated.

If everything dies it sounds more like the ignition switch is intermittant.

If you eliminate something from a circuit and get exactly the same fault, then the eliminated item is not the cause of the issue Wink iirc, the neutral switch on those only operates the bulb and a start inhibitor.

+1 on the ignition switch. Get out your multimeter (you do have one don't you?), and see what happens when you give the wires a damn good wiggling.

I had similar problems with my DRZ.
I turned out to be the main fuse, due to where it was positioned and the layout of the wiring, it got covered in crud all the time.
The connections in the fuse holder corroded and, due to route of the wiring, the insulation on the wires was wearing away!
