Sounds like bollocks, why would it be full sized if it didn't carry any passengers? How do you know there were no passengers?

Something very small could do the job described.

No need for eyes in the sky for that - they just look on youtube and find where one of the perp's mates has filmed the thoughtcrime.

Drones should be beneficial for the police to use.

That is, until they realise they could use them for speed traps. Doh!

How long before plans for RF guns/jammers come out? (assuming they aren't already).

If the police reckon they can make a sufficiently powerful FR interference device to stop a car engine by interfering with the ECU, an enthusiastic amateur ought to be able to take a drone down with a tenners worth of stuff from Maplins, a stolen traffic cone and some tinfoil.

RF jammers are generally pretty easy to make.
But you also can get in to big trouble for unauthorised radio stuff.

If the choppers use ANY network , other than a one to one operator to drone.......they are vunerable to hackers .

Unless it's a specific line of sight beam with a directional receiver anything could be 'vulnerable' - which it wouldn't be.
However you can easily download encryption that would take millions of computer-hours to 'hack'.

I normally ignore your ramblings, but this time I'll bite.

Any data links to and from it will be encrypted. The only one that might possibly not be encrypted is the video output, and that is unlikely - the thing is there to look at things and gather intelligence. If people know they are being specifically watched, they will do something different.

You aren't going to break the encryption. You aren't going to hack the drone and take control of it. You came up with that idea all by yourself, and the team that designed this system have more brains than you. As do my cats.

It could be taken down by some manner of EM beam (to fry the electronics) or by some manner of RF jamming (to block the control signals). I would expect that the EM beam would work if sufficiently powerful, but it will have some manner of pre-set routine to return to base on autopilot or maybe just ditch into the nearest body of water if RF jamming is detected.

While taking down a police drone may seem like a harmless bit of hacking, I doubt the police would see it that way. Anyone doing such a thing would find themselves arrested rather quickly. Trying to shoot it down is even more ludicrous - firing shots at police equipment while it watches you with a high definition camera.

It's not just the police; I suspect the CAA would rather look down on it too.

And yes - for taking it down, an old fashioned gut would be better.

Or train pigeons (without an enclosing missile) to fly in to it.

Exceptionally cheap for an aerial surveillance medium.

A Hardley Davidson Chopper would set you back about £15. Shocked
