Just spent a very enjoyable hour looking through this Fizzer. Many thanks for sharing your biking record, brought back some great memories of my own 30-something years on two wheels. I only wish I'd had a camera ready far more often than I used to; only now do I take a camera everywhere I go on the bike. I've missed taking shots of most of my bikes and many friends - and yet I feel my more adventurous travelling days are only just beginning (hopes!).

Thank you. Thumbs Up

Fair weather rider only? Most disappointed Wink

Loving the pics, makes one feel old remembering the days when it was just a leather, jeans and Doc Marten boots (or ex army ones).
I'm so tight I've still got all my old leathers and recently discovered one of those abysmal all in one waterproofs (that wasn't!) which went straight over the top of everything in grotty weather!

When I first started riding I only had jeans, jacket, pretend leather gloves and a pair of second hand bike boots I got in exchange for digging a retired bikers garden over. No waterproofs for the first 6 months.

This changed one Friday after work when I went to get fuel, took my wage packet out of my jeans and the envelope disintegrated from the rainwater soaking my jeans and I nearly lost my money on to the floor. Then it was down the the local army and navy for a pair of cheap blue plastic over trousers. Oddly I didn't think it necessary to get a waterproof jacket at that time.

True. Fecking hate it mostly.

On the plus side, gives time to breathe, rejoice / re-live some of the memories of the previous year. To help put some ideas together for the next year, and some time to fettle and prep bikes for the onslaught ahead. All with the anticipation of the unknown and endless possibilities.

I may have started drinking again Laughing

That brings back memories. I spent the summer of '90, working just outside Le Puy, instructing/guiding kayaking and rafting trips on a bouncy little river called the Allier. Put up a few new climbing routes as well. Highly underrated area of France.

Excellent pictures, bike history and a great story of your life with bikes Fizzer. I love all the 70's, 80's nostalgic shots of biking in the best days.

I think most on here will be highly jealous of your 41year history on bikes, and of the incredible stories, moments and places you will have seen and experienced over that time.

I like the fact that people like you and Chickenstrip have been riding bikes for decades and have both never lost the love for them in that time, and never had a 20year break etc. I also like the fact that you move with the times and technology over the years and can appreciate very modern and very old bikes equally, as many people I know like one or the other but rarely both.

If I was still enjoying riding alot and doing decent miles a year, and or commuting or touring etc, then I'd have to get with the times I guess and start liking some new bikes. But I'm too absorbed in fucking around with old jap iron, and stuck in 20year old+ nostalgia. I also loved my 90's and early millennium era on bikes, I don't think todays here and now can compete, and I don't really want to give it a chance either.
