... for someone to not see them and fly by at silly speed and then give chase?

Might sound like an odd question and indeed an odd conclusion to jump to but,

1) There are speed camera vans which are used in this area, they are clearly marked as camera vans and they make no effort to disguise the fact that they are camera vans.

This looks like a proper police car (it is) but the only traffic ones I've seen round here are yellow and black or plain, stealth versions. Is it a traffic car? Does it need to be a traffic car to have a camera to catch speeding drivers etc?

2) Window on passenger side was down, woman officer looking out. Didn't appear to have a camera but who knows.

3) No windows appear to be open on the drivers side, no camera visible at all on that side either - granted I know this doesn't mean there wasn't one.

4) Headlights were on as if waiting to come out (was definitely parked up though)

most likely just waiting to pull out. I'm not 100% but I think if it's a hand held camera then I would imagine they'd have another police car further down ready to pull you over. Don't think the hand held's have a wireless connection to the database.

My dad was once caught speeding by a hand held. The officer could only give him a warning as the other officer holding the speed gun accidentally deleted the information from the speed gun. The officer talking to us was quite pissed off with her.

Not really, you come over the crest of a hill and corner and there they are.

Nope not waiting to pull out, nothing behind me, another car beside me and from the rest of the footage they made no attempt to pull out.

Didn't see a camera, but a black camera against a black uniform isn't going to show up much. No other police cars along the journey.

Why do they need a link to the database? Wouldn't they just capture the video / readings and process it later?

Waiting for something

Probably a stolen car or something and can pull out when it gets closer

would have thought it'll depend on how much memory the camera could store. Not sure how it works but most of the time hand held cameras you'd be pulled over from what I've seen.

But I'd also agree with andyscooter, they could have been waiting for something.

There's always a possibility that you've already been past the camera car/unmarked and they're the interceptor. Any bridges nearby? We have camera vans in Nottingham yet they still employ this tactic as well as 'regular' officers having hand-helds.

Post video.

If they wanted to catch you, I doubt you'd escape from them unintentionally.

A car the size of a quarter of a million pound gaff in West London painted in fluorescent colors with a big blue light on it parked in plain site.

You must have been shite at hide and seek, mate.

It's a police vehicle stopped at the side of a road... they could have been there for a million different reasons.

Best thing to do would have been to pop back and ask them, otherwise you're just guessing Smile

I had the exact same, but a bit harder to spot with buildings etc, oh and it was a dream:

My mate was in front of me on his bike, he must've been going double the speed limit by the time he saw it - whilst going through a GATSO. (camera facing him).

It looked very much like it was doing speed checks but why would they do it on a road with GATSOs already?

He slowed to the speed limit, then I woke up and nothing ever came of the dream.

They park up sometimes to do paperwork. That way they get the admin done at the same time as being a visible presence. I've heard that they sometimes have mileage limits because of fuel costs, so they park up in between calls to moderate the mileage on their shift.

Alternately they could be waiting for someone or a car they need to find to go past.

Make a mental note of the location and NEVER speed there again.

They maybe scouting out new locations for a crackdown.

For what it's worth, I'd try hard to refrain from murdering someone there too.

..they were sat eating or drinking and the driver had just let one go, hence the window down.
