Hi All,

I have got my self new set of leather a
nd quite happy with it .
However my boots which are spada do not zip up all the way.
https://www.getgeared.co.uk/Motorcycle-Boots_SPADA_Motorbike_Boots_ST1_WP_Black?utm_medium=shopping_feed_uk&utm_source=google

however the issue I have is, the zip can not be zipped all the way up due to my big shin/calf.

this means the velcro is used to stick or straps it so it safe and the shoe doesn't come off .

my foot size is 12 and the boot fits perfectly fine but not the top part,

would this be acceptable for track days ?

should I go a size up despite the fact that 12 uk is the correct size for me?

Spada boots are absolute garbage, without a doubt the poorest quality item of clothing of any sort I have ever had. Mine were useless after about three months, leaking like carpet slippers with split & cracked leather, uppers coming away from the soles.

You'll technically be ok to do a trackday with them as nobody actually checks your gear however would you really want to be hooning about all day without your boots done up properly?

Have a look at Daytona GTX Roadstar....they have 2 front zips that both have velcro over fastenings. ..ALSO there are 2 velcro adjusters on the back of each boot so if you have big calves you can adjust accordingly. I swear by mine.

Not cheap...but you get what you pay for.

Have you tryed on some of the buckle-type boots. These in particular are very expensive but theres cheaper used ones on ebay. Sidi/Alpinestars particularly have quite a lot of similar ones.

Admittedly you may still not get the actual zip up entirely, but it may perhaps allow you to at least fasten and secure it properly?https://www.getgeared.co.uk/core/media/media.nl?id=18837&c=731612&h=b03b1cdfbd22c839c872

My suggestion would be alpinestars SMX4's good boots, the zip only comes up to the bottom of the calf, the rest is velco, like so.

I just changed from those Spada ST1 boots to Sidi Vortice as I was a bit worried about the fact that I couldn't get them done up over my leathers and also that they would undo themselves as I was riding.

If you shop around for the Vortice, you can get them for £200 new. It is a lot of cash, but I read that these boots last for years, while my 18 month old, weekend riding only boots are looking a little worn. It doesn't help that my cat had a go at them too.

That is exactly the same set up as the Spada boots!
Never had any problems with mine!

The spadas are rebadged Weise Highways. If it isn't too late to return them, get rid and buy literally ANYTHING else.

They are the single worst thing ever to come out of a motorcycle shop, and that includes rim tape and visor cleaners. The calves are uber tight, can get away with it for textiles where the trouser goes over the boot but no good for leathers unless you have insect legs.

This is a review I wrote, shortly before the left sole came off and I binned them:

Quote:
I commute by motorcycle an average of 25 miles a day, I have owned these boots for about a year and a half, I have worn them roughly half of the time that I have commuted (i.e the equivalent of about 9 months of daily use). I walk from the car park, down a short corridor and up a set of stairs, I don't do long walks in them.

At first I thought they were pretty good, the calf was a bit tight but they were comfortable. The first time I was caught in heavy rain on a longer ride (it was a 70 mile ride to a friends) I arrived with soaking heels. The boots let water in at the back where the plastic heel plate meets the flexible leather, the stitches holding the two parts together get torn by the silly design when you walk in them. Eventually, the insides of the boot at this point also get torn to shreds so the only thing between your foot and the elements is a bit of stitched leather, needless to say they leak like a sieve. Eventually the stitching around the gear shift lever plastic part also broke and the toes leaked too. You will get wet feet with these boots. The zip also gets caught on the waterproof filler bit between the two zips, it is very annoying and can result in the middle bit getting ripped.

The plastic heel part also digs into the back of your ankle when you walk, after the insides have torn apart (and they will) this becomes very painful. Mine are soon to be occupying a landfill and I believe that it is the best place for them.

Good points:
They look ok
Detatchable abrasion plates on the outer ankle
comfortable at first

Bad:
Not waterproof, in any sense of the word - down to design rather than liners.
Inner heel tears to shreds - exposing your foot to the hard plastic
Tight calves
Etc

Would not recommend, to anyone, under any circumstances.
