I have been looking at a few local training schools to see which one is good quality and has a reasonable price. I have found this school in the Wirral which is about 15 miles from my home. They offer a direct access course with CBT & 6 - 2hr lessons for £400. This seems like a good price to me. Is this what you should expect to pay?

The offer - Direct Access (CBT + 6x 2hr lessons) £400.00 (18hrs)

The link if you want to have a look at the website.

Thanks,

Mark

I was:

£100 cbt

£500 3 day training including test fee's. Also got another 3 days or so free training on top of this as test kept getting canceled due to weather and the owner took us out periodically in between cancellations to keep us ready.

This was with Biketec in aberdeen just over a year ago, was very good and worth every penny. Prices may be different now however.

You should be looking to pay around £25 to £30 per hour, plus test fees.

£400 for 12 hrs + cbt seems a fair price

A CBT with us will cost £110. If you book DAS with us within a few months you will get a £50 refund in the form of a discount on your DAS. Without the discount our DAS costs £550 for 3 days. All you need to bring is your lunch money and we supply everything else including tests. You will need a spare 5 days though as we advertise it as a 3 day DAS but it translates into being with us for 5 days. So far I havent seen any other school that does it the same way we do. Most include their tests into the 3 days.

For me it was £125 CBT

Then around £625/£650 for my DAS.

Not sure how many days training I had for my DAS as it was over a month due to weather and Xmas.

Included all my kit and bike hire.

In 1997 the DAS with CBT was £400. If you think about inflation and the way other prices have rocketed since then, you will realise that paying £400 for the same service now - is a good deal. Thumbs Up

Get it booked.

Thanks for your replies. It's interesting to see what other people have paid. I might be being a bit thick here but from what people have said in their replies it sounds like the cost of the theory, mod 1 and mod 2 should be included in the price? I get the feeling that the £400 is for obviously CBT and training but also for the costs of the tests but I would just have to book them myself? Maybe I'm just reading it wrong? Confused

Most DAS courses include test fees. Your one seems cheaper than the rest and the combined test fees (mod 1&2) come to around £105. So ask them if the price includes tests.

It'll be good if they are included in the price as I'd been working out the costs with the £400 for the lessons etc. and then about £120 for the test costs.

I think you need to read between the lines:

Direct Access (CBT + 6x 2hr lessons) £400.00 (18hrs)

Then later on:

Booking your Practical Tests
Once you have passed your Theory & Hazard Perception Test you can now think about booking your Practical Tests. When booking both your Module 1 & Module 2 tests you want to make sure that you have sufficient time between both test dates, so that if for any reason you can’t take your Module 1 test you will still be in the cancelation period to change your Module 2 test without being charged. The practical tests take place with the DSA at their MPTC (our nearest is Chester or St Helens) Once you have booked your tests make sure that you let us know the dates & times. Also that you get your appropriate lessons booked.

So the £400 is just training, so you need to add on £15.50 and £75.00 for the DSA fees and then you need to rent the bike for these which is:

Bike & Instructor for Mod 1 Test £65.00
Bike & Instructor for Mod 2 Test £70.00

So I'd say it's £625 assuming you don't need extra lessons and pass first time, but I could be wrong.....

^^^ Really, you have to do DAS and the other tests? Since when?

What happened to the one-stop-shop? For peeps over a certain age the DAS (includes everything, bike hire, the works), pass that and you're on the road. No messing. Question

I'm going back home this weekend, so I'll just go down and have a look and see what they've got to say about the prices.

Thanks for your help.

That makes it about average. Perhaps a tad more expensive. ours is £550 for a 3 day DAS.

I found another school just down the road from the previous place in Bromborough in Cheshire. It appears to say that you can get a DAS 14 hr course for £440 with both mod 1 and mod 2 included. Does anyone know what MMA means? It says it is included in the price but I don't have a clue what it means. This place looks really good and professional. It is a bit out of the way for me but I can't seem to find a good school near to me yet. I am saying this by going off their websites. Would you say that is the right thing to do? I just thought that if a company hasn't got it's website presented well, there is the possibility that they may not be up to scratch.

The only reference I can find to MMA is MOTORCYCLE. MANOEUVERING. AREA...

Web sites are a decent indicator of a business but only that. For a business it either lures customers in or puts them off. You will get a much better feeling when you visit and speak with people in my view.

Your doing much what I did. Looking up local training centres and having a rummage around web sites. For me it was the sitting down over a coffee and a chat which decided where I went.

Yeah you're right about that. I'm going down to a few of them on Saturday when I'm home from Uni.

Motorcycle Manouevering Area makes sense as I suppose that makes sense it means that you practice for the Mod 1 on a good quality off road circuit.
