Shoot em' up!

Can anyone recommend and decent FPS games? I get bored with mission based games where you cannot progress without collecting artifacts, or carrying out specific sub-missions etc.

I like to just run around shooting Nazi's or aliens!

I've been running on Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Doom 3, Quake etc for ages. Everything I try these days is just, well, meh. Give me guns, lots of ammo and let me destroy things!

I think I have issues!

Any recommendations?

Proper old fashioned shooter, multiplayer only, run and gun, no stupid story mode that nobody plays.

No overly complex strategy like BF etc

Half-Life? 1 + 2?

If you don't fancy going old skool to HL1 then 'black mesa' is a great mod for HL2 that replays the old game with the new engine (and a few developer twists on the original too)

it ends just as you get to zen but its a fantastic piece of work.

Max Payne (ok its 3rd person and 3 was a bit of a letdown but still fun)

Borderlands 2? - can't recommend that enough but it is mission based

start the game on custom difficulty, with unlimited ememies with low AI and turn on the heavy weapons cheat

spend the rest of the time turning hords of idiots into soup with the heavy slug thrower

Borderlands 2 GOTY might be mission based, But it will take you a very long time to finish it well worth the money.

Call of duty free for all multiplayer. Exactly what you described you're after. Fast, frantic, can switch it on, jump in and leave whenever, games are 10 mins long, loads of weapons and ammo.
