I've found a few of my bikes take a small wobble of the bars to get the steering lock to lock.

Steering lock will not prevent anyone stealing your bike* but it will make them damage it more in doing so.

I wouldn't bother with it if I were you.

*Source: Helped a BCF member a few weeks back get his broken down bike out of the back yard of a terraced house, along the back lane and loaded into a Vito van with the steering lock still on.

Steering lock on my bike is, steering all the way to the left,
1. Ignition turned to off.
2. Push key down.
3. Let key come back up, then turn it further.

As to using it or not, I always do. It might be possible to move a bike with it on, but it isn't easier.

Steering lock saved my dt125 from being stolen outside a local shop by some scrotes 2 years ago. They damaged it but it was very easy to fix. But didn't do anything a chain wouldn't do, just a bit more practical.

My bike needs a little wiggle of the bars as you engage the steering lock. Stumped me for a few days before I realised what I had to do.

Worth using as it delays them just getting on it and pushing it or hotwiring it. If they want it they'll have it but the least you can do is make it difficult to just wheel away.

OP, that's a stunning bike. I would lose my admittedly non-existent bike licence on that very quickly Laughing

yeah, I got loaned one once and the engine braking took me by surprise first time I slowed down, good fun actually, part of me wishes I'd bought one instead of my BMW

I had the XT engine in my old MZ 'supermoto' thing.

With the twin carb setup I found as soon as it really started going you hit the limiter. Anyway it put me in hospital twice so I sold the cursed thing.

Right now I think I'd go for the 03 over a hornet. I mean, I know the latter is "the better bike" - il4 smooth, cbr pedigree, sweet looks, good low height, fast, handles, stops, blah. But I did really quite like the torquey pull of that big single - and basically I want one more than a hornet. For whatever wrong set of reasons.

Bad question alert - how hard would it be to put a bog standard round light on the front of an mt-03? Could you "just" get a universal bracket and off we go or is it all kinds of aggro? Also, would a pair of stripple esque dommies look good? I personally think they would. At any rate, they would totally change the look of the bike I reckon.

And the chains slack? Rolling Eyes I know I could have got a Hornet or something for the same money, but for what I use it for (around town) it's alright. Only things I don't like (so far) are the clunky gearbox & jerky power delivery (at low speeds), but both I can live with.

Yeah you really have to use that clutch at low speeds. And slow corners are another thing again.

Oh and any idea what the best cans are for the 03? And by best I mean loudest. Laughing

And actually it's not even just a low speed thing. Those fuckers surge annoyingly at 45-50 in top.
