 |

Little bit embarrassing asking this.
I'm looking at getting a few tools together to allow me to do more work on my bike myself.
I've got myself a socket set, but wondering what else would be useful? I would like to do my brakes myself one day.
If anyone has any brands that are good but cheapish that would be great!
I know its a bit vague, but just the basics to start . ____________________ Snow rider wrote: I'm far to annoying to be near for long periods of time |

A set of combination spanners, a set of allen keys, a set of screwdrivers, and some pliers.
Halfords professional, Draper expert or similar are a good starting point. |

As said by most,
Spanners, both open end and ring
Screwy drivers of various sizes and types (cross and flat)
Allen keys small set on a ring, bigger set in a case/bag
Socket set 1/4" small set, 1/2" bigger sizes
Torque wrench (1/2" better as smaller sizes tend to be less specific on tightness)
Small, cheap, multimeter
Pliers of various sizes and shapes
If cost is no optionm then the pro's are drawn towards Strap-on.
Bluepoint is their budget range and a more affordable entry range for the aspiring mech, but still a tad costly for the amateur.
My lad's in training as a mech and started out with Halfords Pro's as an entry level set to get him started, a set which is still in use daily along side his SO proper kit.
As suggested, E-Bay for some great deals if you can snap them up (no pun intended)
Other place to look especially this time of year is car boot sales as a lot of clear outs going on and spring cleaning, getting rid of stuff.
Local papers for garage clearances or business "everthing must go" sales, a bit of a vulture way to get stuff, but needs must.
Free add papers
Hope that helps

Hi.
i think most tools have already been covered, ie 1/4" socket set, 3/8 sockets set, decent length breaker bar, ring end spanners etc.
forget allen keys get some hex bits for your 3/8 ratchet, they usually come in sets with short ones + long reach ones together......something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/40Pc-Torx-Star-Spline-Hex-Socket-Bit-Set-3-8-And-1-2-Drive-/390624858636?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item5af30e520c, not that particular set (was the 1st i came across in ebay) a good start, as is a set of t-bar hex keys. never used a conventional allen since.
good mole grips, wire strippers (ratchet type for connecting/crimping wires etc) pliers etc,
cheers,
GAZ
PS : look at halfaurds pro + draper expert stuff, get some good deals & i have a set of draper expert screwdriver that is over 30yrs old |
