Hi All,

Hope you are all doing well.

I am in the delima of getting an R6 as this is what I wanted from the very beginnig as you may have seen my other posts.

However I did listen to people suggestion last year and got my self an sv650 rather than R6 straight from my 125.

I have been riding everyday and have upped my skill and want to get a taste of inline 4 as I hear a a lot of contradictory feedback.

Some say V twin is the best , some other say Inline .

Some say V twin has a very good power through out the range and inline is very lazy and has to be reved hard but when asked the questions does v twin beat inline in acceleration , people said no .

inline can kill v twin in any gear and any rev.

So over all confused and want to try an inline . My heart is with R6 but also like gsxr .

I will love to get something that has the F1 sound . So that is one of my main considerations.

I will be using it for daily commute and think it is a shame to sell my sv650 which I have had less than a year .

So I thought I can get an old R6 and stick it in the garage and use it for track days and occasionally insure it and use it on the road.
Will see how it goes.

However the cheapest R6 which is 1998 is around 1.5-2K mark . If I was to spend that much then I might as well add another 1-2K and get a decent 2005-6 model.this is not what I want to do .
I probably do this in 1-2 years from now.

As a result I want to get something for less than 1K or round that range which gives the kick R6 has and also does good cornering .
What are my options , are they any ?

Will it be reliable or will it need a constant repair in your view ?

I have heard R6 is the best cornering machine , is that right ?

I appreciate there are a lot of questions but appreciate any feedback even if it is to answer one of the questions .

Thanks

Your not gonna get a modern sports bike for under 1k, not one that isn't a bag of shit and been to the moon and back

You could pick up a 90s sports bike of some description but depend what you want to ride

As far as inline or v goes, it's personal preference and you'll never know which you prefer till you have ridden both

And as far as saying an r6 is the best handling machine, that's somewhat vague considering it's changed somewhat over the last 15 years. Older bikes are far less equipped in some cases, again handling really comes down to set up and preference with similar bikes

I'd save up, get a nice k3 gsxr 750 for about £1500-2000 and be happy as a pig in shit

Don't try and buy an 04 r6 that's selling for a grand, it won't be a bargain, it'll be a lemon

Is it the one with 145Bhp so in a way even better than R6 in terms of acceleration etc ?

I can go up to 1.5 K if needed.

That is litre bike HP.

You'll be looking around the 100hp marker.

I doubt you'll ride it better or faster than the SV until you learn to actually control the bike, which takes time.

You'll need about £2k to get a decent older one.

You could get the older models zx6r or go for a ZZR6, the tourer version but still a very pokey engine.

100 hp once upon a time too.

"does it sound like a F1 car ..." Come on man!

If you want F1 sound of last year, you're going to need a V8 revving higher than an R6 Thumbs Up

Early R6's are shit, do not buy one.

Go ahead, ask me why.

Keep an eye out for a cheap ZX6R G/J/A models - maybe ones missing fairings now. In winter you can often pick them up for well under £1k and the J model I had was 98% as capable as a similar year R6 I'd say - but with a more relaxed riding position.

Thundercat not quite as good, but still a worthy choice.

I would try and get at least a test ride on an r6, look for local dealers with one. The riding position is more extreme than your SV.

Some people like it some don't. Some find it a strain on the wrists, especially if your commute is a lengthy slow one.

You will have to work the r6 harder as it won't have the same torque lower down the revs, but great fun post 7k.

If you like the r6 sell the sv and add that to the pot. The running costs will be negligibly different.

Don't deny yourself the bike you have dreamed about by being sensible. An r6 is a decent machine for fun and commuting.

Didn't realise how expensive they were (just looked up prices), £735 for a full system and some of the slip-ons are £500! That's ridiculous lol

If you consider it as a percentage of the total revs, the R6 is better right the way through, I'd say.
But lower peak power means the SV is geared lower. Upgrear an SV by 50% in the lower gears or whatever to match an R6 and it'll feel very lethargic low down AND up top!

If you want a taste of IL4 but on a budget you should get a Thundercat as its much cheaper to buy and insure than an R6 and still has much better performance than the SV650.

Here is my thundercat that had 11,000 miles and cost me £1000 a few years ago.

I replaced it with an R6 as i wanted something a bit more modern and a bit faster and bought this for £2650 with about 11,000 miles.

how much do you think I can grab for my sv650 which costed me £2500 . it is 05 plate and red in color and has 24k on the clock .

it has a sport exhuast and led light .

do you think I can grab 2400 or round that range so can sell it and add 1k to it so can get an R6 ?

the price you quoted seemed very cheap as the cheapest on autotrader was around 4k .

where did you find your bike on ?
