My bike is listed as black on the log book and it is, mostly
Today I are mostly been removing the many layers of poorly
applied, scabby, scratched paint on the tank and have just put a coat of primer grey on.
Now I'm thinking of tarting it up a bit and spraying it say blue or red or green.
Dunno yet will have to browse the shelves at halfrauds until a colour
takes my fancy
I looked on the dvla website and it says you have to inform them of change of vehicle colour,
but it doesn't say how much change.
I assume it presumes for instance, a blue car's been sprayed red .

The thing is its just the tank not the whole bike
my attention span wont go that far.

Is it worth bothering them just cos I tarted it up a bit?

If the predominant colour remains the same then you don't need to inform them.

My Fazer hack has been different colours from the log book for 4 MOT's now. I don't bother as I'm never going to sell it.

Never been pulled either.

I filled in and sent the V5 from my last Jawa in to the DVLA four times to notify them I had painted it green. It came back as black each time. It still says black. It is still green.

Got pulled once in a Mk2 Escort that I'd rattled in grey primer awaiting a blow-over because it was no longer beige. Feds ran it through the PNC, spotted the discrepancy and decided to tug me for it.

Nowadays I very much doubt anything would ever happen. If you don't ping their ANPR they're not interested.

You also don't need to declare a colour change if you vinyl wrap your vehicle which means they might as well not bother keeping a record.

About 2 years ago One of my former colleauges got a tug in his charcoal grey MG (listed as Silver on the V5) as the copper thought it was black.

I've been tanking round in a sand-camo transit for 6 months thats listed as white and had no problems

What?
that kind of makes it all a load of old bollerx then dont it?

I'll just carry on regardless and if stopped tell em I
'wrapped' the tank in vinyl silk emulsion.

I changed the D6 (red) fairings and tank to D7(blue), commuting through Bristol for years, filtering past police.....no problem.

With my car, went from silver to red, sent it off and it came back no hassle.

With the KTM, its going from orange to black currently... I will not be informing DVLA, nor the insurers. Reason being its such a frigging minimal change thats lowering the value of the shit heap anyway. Laughing
