I suspect he means the piss yellow head and oil pump cover, which probably wouldn't be most people's first colour choice.

Different tho Cool

Ah I see.

It's actually Gold Hammerite, brush applied. Photo and garage lighting probably makes it look an off colour.

Small update.

Dropped the rear wheel off to my friend Lee, who is a fabricator. He has welded the sprocket carrier on for me.

I also received the graphics I made up. The guys at LuckyMX did a fantastic job of working with me, to get them exactly how I wanted them.
Really good quality of print, dead chuffed with them.

Any updates on this little piggy? You've got the back of it broken, so any chance of it seeing the sunshine this summer?

I really need to get my finger out and finish it. There are a fair few factors in the way though.
One being the Chaly, another being my SJ, and the other one, being the Transit which I'm half way through planning a day-van conversion.
#toomanyprojects

I need to have the hole in the bottom yoke taken out to fit the pit bike stem bolt. And I need a spacer turning down for the top yoke for the same reason.
Once they're done, I need the front wheel turning down to make the hub narrower, so it fits between the forks properly.

Then it's a case of assembling it, and wiring it up.

Will do my best as I really want a bit of summer fun on it.

All great projects though dude!

It'd be nice to see the Chaly finished and you happy with it first, as ATM im really loving the retro old school looks, and Pit bikes don't seem as sexy anymore!

Is the SJ going to be a full on serious off roader with all the kit you had on your last 4x4, or is it more of a runaround/winter car that you can also have a bit of off road fun with without ruining it for the road?

The SJ is sort of becoming the exact opposite of what I wanted it to be. Laughing

I'm picking up a winch bumper for it tomorrow. It's caged, and harnessed etc.

My Grandad is going to make me a flywheel nut for the AF1 engine as I've lost mine. Rolling Eyes
It's an M12x1 thread, but the hex needs to be under 15mm so it can be tightened with a socket. Any bigger and nothing fits in the flywheel.

At the same time I will get him to take out the holes in the yokes, and then I can start putting it together.

Need to buy a starter motor for it, as it doesnt have a kick starter.

We have an update!

Set the MIG up yesterday, and fabbed up a top mount for the shock.
I also welded up the subframe brackets, and also some mounts for the tank to sit on too.

Alignment isn't great but I plan to use BBR side plastics, so you'll not see the fact the rear plastics dont quite reach the tank anyway.

I'm well happy with the shock angle, got it really upright so it gives a nice progressive spring rate. LOADS of adjustment on the Ducatti unit.

The tank sits quite far back from the headstock, but this gives me a nice bit of room to mount a set of RS125 clocks, so I will have all warning lights, rev counter etc.

Next job is to source a set of GSXR600 yokes, and have the bottom yoke machined out to accept the 48mm fork legs (Tops are 45 so will slot straight in).

This will give me a wide enough gap to mount the SR50 front moped wheel in, as it's too tight at the moment for a disc to bolt up, without running the wheel off-set, which I do not want to do.

https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/t1.0-9/10492559_10152480584010606_3382797336481987876_n.jpg

Excuse the 2 cuts out of the rear fender, this was before I re-designed the shock mount, and thought I was going to have to cut away the plastics for them to fit.
Now, all plastics should just bolt straight up.

Today I fabbed up two engine mounts for the front of the engine. Welded them up to the frame, fitted the rear wheel, and aligned the sprockets.

Next main job to do is to get a front end fitted now, so I can start working out ground clearances etc.

Hi

That exhaust looks a bit odd for an RS. To me it looks more like one from an early AF1 125 (or in shape like one from an RS50, but looks too small for that). How many loops for springs does it have at the front?

All the best

Keith

Epic. Thumbs Up That shock is almost past vertical, it does give the back a nice look as well as function. I can see this little Bessie having the looks and ability to match the power of that lovely rotax motor.

However, I may reserve any furthur dishings of karma until i see a beautiful custom made, dirt bike style, coiled snake of an expansion chamber, being painstakingly crafted from a few dozen or so seamlessly welded cones. Wink Laughing.

Not totally sure on the exhaust either Keith. It's got Aprilia on it. I have chopped the end can off obviously as it had a really long stinger on it, which stuck about 2feet out of the back of the bike.

1cyl, I would LOVE a segmented spanny, but they are custom made, and mega £££! Razz

SRAD yokes purchased:

45mm, so they will need boring out to 46 and 48mm to accommodate the forks I am going to use.

The width of the legs should them give me plenty of room to fit the wheel in between, and it should also give me enough room to have a disc adapter made up, so I can run some big F-off rotor on the front! Mr. Green

Need to get them bored out, and then they should bolt right up. I've found a set of bearings which fit both these yokes, AND the Malaguti headstock, which is good!

So the styling I am going to base it on, is this particular bike:

https://www.motorstown.com/images/aprilia-125-replica-04.jpg

But I am undecided on wheel colour. I've always been a bit of a whore for freshly painted wheels. Usually white.

Black, seems a little too boring for this bike. I've got both wheels here, ready to be shipped to the powder coaters.

I'm thinking of going for gold? I might take the tin of 'piss yellow' paint I have with me for a colour match. Laughing

Any other suggestions? The AF1 seems to have red wheels, but then it does look super 80s too.

Hi

The road AF1 Replica in that colour scheme did have red wheels. Personally I prefer white wheels, but they are a pig to clean.

All the best

Did you commit to a wheel colour?

As much as I love black, I agree that this bike needs more.
Personally, I love the shade of that purple Thumbs Up
Or How about going all out with some bi colouring! Maybe red and white?

Not coloured the wheels yet.
Picked my yokes up from Pete yesterday, he's done a blinding job of them!
Got some headstock bearings on order, then will have myself a rolling chassis.

Colour will come right at the end, once I've built it up fully, and happy with shock angle, fork rake, seat height etc.
Then it will be off to the powder coaters with everything. Smile

I do like the purple too. The AF1 had red wheels, bi-colour could be cool, or maybe old school SRAD style, with front wheel purple, and back one white. haha

Will get some updates at the weekend.

Just bought the MX125 exhaust, will be with me next week.
Will be ordering a couple of axles tomorrow, so will be able to get the wheels on it next week too.

Not got any headstock bearings in it yet, so the rake is quite long. Once the headstock bearings are in, the forks will stand up straighter, and it'll also raise the front of the bike another 30(ish)mm, as the bottom bearing will push the lower yoke down.

Forks sit very wide, haha. Hopefully the handling will be okay.

Okay, so it's starting to look a bit like a bike now.

Got a text from the fella with the MX125 pipe, it's in the post, on it's way.

Need a new rear fender, and 2 rear number boards as I cut mine up before I re-modified the frame. I want it to take a full set of standard/unmodified plastics, so if I ever have an off which breaks one, I can simply bolt a new one on. I don't want to have to be cutting bits off of the plastics to make them fit etc. The only exception being the N/S tank shroud, as I've a feeling the bottom is going to need trimming for the expansion chamber.
