Can a Yamaha FZS600 Fazer be ridden on an A2 license?

The answer is yes…

Just thought i'd clear up any confusion on whether a Yamaha Fazer 600 can be ridden on an A2 license as it's so close to power output limit, people have been debating whether or not it can be ridden on an A2 license.

I've got an email from Yamaha, which had a table attached showing that 1998-2003 FZS600's produced 69.9kw /93.7bhp

The table emailed to me and a print screen of the email is below:

For anyone who wants to dispute this, they can ring up Yamaha on 01932358000, ask for their technical team and they have the specifications available. It literarily took them two minutes to search and give me the power output over the phone and then another 5minutes to email me the specifications.

This used to bother me a bit (if a bike was a 1 or 2 bhp above the limit) I don't care about it now. Going to get either a newer Fazer or Thundercat. Might even get an R6. Thing is this information is not readily available and if I don't know and the DLVA don't know and the police don't know it really doesn't matter. Long as it is restricted imo I am being responsible.

You'll get a mix of opinions on what you plan on doing but, at the end of the day, you know the risks you're taking and you're the one taking them. As long as your day job doesn't require you to have a license, I won't advice against it and if you do get an R6, keep us updated on how it goes.

I'd expect the insurance company to know which bikes are eligible for A2. Good luck with that R6.

He won't struggle to get it insured on his license, as the only options on comparison websites is full motorcycle license or provisional license and then you're meant to add restrictors as part of the modifications. The OP has a full license and I doubt they'd care/look into whether the R6 is A2 compliant unless the OP or a third party claim off his insurance.

that would be a personal injuries claim ... they would pay out as the law dictates and then come at you for the money.

I say they dyno one.

They use a similar if not identical engine in the Thundercat which cannot be used as an A2 bike because dems the rules.

I wouldn't want to give insurers a test though, I'm not a fan of them and they try to give as hard as they get. Eventually you are likely to have no insurance and be on the hunt elsewhere. Wink

If you fit a Thundercat with an FZS engine...? Laughing

The number is "net power output" which presumably (because the same phrase is used) means the Euro-test with the engine on a bench and measured directly at the crank.
