Hi guys my Honda H100 sj with around 21000 miles gave up the ghost today, it looks like a total strip down job but any pointers on where to start would be much appreciated (it will probably be obvious when i open it up and it's a pile of mush)

I went out this morning and it started fine ran for about 10 miles then it started a kind of ticking noise then just cut out. tried the usual stuff but wouldn't start. Got a lift home in an AA van (bike stuffed in the back, door nearly closed) the AA man sprayed carb cleaner in through the air filter but still wouldn't fire up.

Changed the plug, cleaned the carb and disconnected the ignition switch to rule that out with no luck.
Went for a coffee when I came back kicked it a couple of times and it fired up sounded terrible and cut out and it doesn't sound too clever when I kick it.

Thanks for any advice
Jamie

Hi

I would try a compression check as a first check. If that is suspiciously low then strip the top end and check the condition of the piston and rings.

All the best

Keith

Thanks for that Keith,
Just took the head off and fortunately or unfortunately depending how you look at it it was easy to see the problem. The roller bearing looks to have disintegrated. The barrel looks ok but the head and piston look quite bad.
I'm more worried about the rollers falling down into the engine.
Do you think it would be best to strip it down and clean out any debris.

Thanks again
Jamie

I can't see from the pics....but is it big end rollers that have rattled about! If so new Conrod and crank rebuild time...not exactly £££ for a H100 but you'll need to send the crank off to get it done unless you know a local machine shop that is willing to do it

Congratulations, you've just won yourself a new 'parts bike' so when the Honda H100 you're about to buy breaks down you will have all the parts you need to fix it.

Hi

Not sure how the rollers would get out that easily with the piston in place. However I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if it has damaged the little end eye of the con rod, in which case a replacement rod means an engine strip.

Probably worth doing the mains at the same time.

All the best

Keith
