I emailed them first at
Evelyn.Kunz@nrh.adac.de
She (Evelyn who speaks English) sent me the forms which I completed and returned. However there was a problem about transferring the money - something to do with IBAN codes or somesuch. I never got to tyhe root of the problem and my bank just shrugged their shoulders, as they do.
So I phoned them on
0851 5903 2523 (plus the code for Germany) and asked to speak to an English speaker and I paid using my debit card. |

Ask ADAC, they tend to be adac experts.
I asked an ADAC rep in saarbrucken on Thursday and she was insistent that UK residents can join, she showed me the map andf said that was the area of coverage and where you can live to join.
then tried to sign me up before i showed her my card.
The cover is extensive, they are huge.

ADAC as all others i know of will first try to get it fixed locally, this is down to you, your bike, you pay to have it fixed.

I just recently had my bike recovered from France with RAC.
I broke down coming down from the Alps, just short of Grenoble where we had a hotel booked.
RAC subcontract French coverage (at least) to another company, I don't know who.
Truck arrived after about 20 minutes - apparently it was based locally. Taxi to take me to my hotel arrived shortly after. Taxi alone was 100 EUR.
The garage they sent it to wanted 1800 EUR to repair it though - a 9 year old VFR. They wanted to use all-new parts for things I could get on ebay for 20 quid, and even then all new parts shouldn't have cost more than 800 EUR total - complete scam.
So I had RAC recover the bike, which they did after "checking my policy". Basically, they'll recover if their estimate of value of the bike exceeds the recovery cost.
I expect RAC spent close to 1800 EUR recovering it, and certainly more than what it would have cost to repair at an honest garage interested in getting the bike back on the road again at reasonable cost.
RAC also covered all my travel costs coming back to the UK, obviously. The train tickets alone added up to more than I'm spending fixing the VFR.

So the garage put on new shaft/clutch/brakes from ebay anf they break 200 miles later, who are you going to shout at.
It isn't worth getting the shit for sourcing and fitting used parts which then fail and you take back to the garage to fit again at a loss.

The battery is definitely taking the pee. A similar thing happened to me coming off the Col du Madeline.
The bike died & I was recovered to Dat motos in Saint Jean-du-Maurienne https://www.la-halle-aux-boutiques.com/savoie/maurienne/vente-accessoires-entretien-reparation-quad-dat-moto.php using my Carol Nash policy organised via the AA central control in Lyon. The diagnosis was a fried Battery & Reg/Rec, however it later transpired the alternator was fried, Dat motos charged me €724 to replace the reg/rec (€420) and replace the battery (€65) +6hrs labour, 2 days later with my travel plans ruined I turned around and headed home. however 130 miles later the bike died, it had been running on the battery & when that ran flat it died (I guess Arnaud at Dat motos wasn`t such a good mechanic after all ) the bike was recovered off the toll road south of Lyon to a local car dealers with the plan of sending it to the nearest (bike specific) dealer for investigation / report / repair. A taxi was organised to take me to the nearest Avis car hire office (for €50 ) and I was reluctantly given a hire car to drive back to Zeebrugge to catch the ferry home. It transpired Dat motos had failed to diagnose the faulty alternator and overcharged me 5hrs labour.
The dealer in Lyon could repair the bike using new parts at a cost of €1250 plus the €400-800 cost of me travelling back to pick it up + cost of me riding it back to the UK. So I dug my heals in and requested they repatriate it, I had the spare parts to do the job waiting at home, however there was a 3 way battle on going slowing the whole process down, the AA where refusing to repatriate the bike because it COULD be fixed locally, I was refusing to pay a 2nd time as it should`ve been done right the 1st time, the AA suing Dat Motos for over charging, failure to repair the bike correctly the 1st time, 2 x tow trucks, cost of hire car, hotel costs, & bike storage charges where stacking up at the dealers. Eventually they capitulated, Dat Motos repaid me £250+ for the excess labour, and my bike was repatriated home 6 weeks later.
So it definitely important to check the details of breakdown policies
PS: having sold some other items on eBay while waiting for the bikes return to offset the cost, the stator, battery, gasket and the upgraded Mosfet Reg/rec eventually costing me £50. the old stator was eventually rewound for £120. So there was no way I was going to pay the dealer in Lyon €1250 if I had to go back, & I would`ve sat at the side of the road outside the dealers and done the job myself in 1hr. having retraced (and completed) the failed journey the following year I know MY repairs are ok, the only issue on the return trip was the Datatool S4 alarm failing, which I fixed (much to their annoyance) outside the dealers in Ajaccio after he refused to help.
I now carry a few spares (stator, gasket and the upgraded Mosfet Reg/rec) when on my Euro jollies ____________________ I accept no responsibility for swearing, drinking, motorcycle riding or your pregnant teenage daughter. |

went with adac in the end. didn't need it, but am going to keep it in force in place of my normal rac cover. 99% of reports about them can't say enough positives. the lady on the phone spoke very good english much to her bashfulness about that. card and docs were all here when i arrived home (i sorted it the day we left), but she gave me my policy numbers etc and told me i could call into any adac office in germany and they'd sort me out with documents if i wanted them sooner ____________________ CBT - 17/09/12 * Theory - 23/10/12 * Mod1 - 05/03/13 * Mod2 - 25/03/13 * BOSH!
