Evening all.
Came across a a strange issue today.
I was looking at a ped for a friend, a 2013 Pesaro 50 replica.
He filled up at a petrol station and after about a mile the bike cut out.
He is sure it was petrol, they have drained/replaced it with fresh fuel and no joy.
I have checked the carb, defiantly fuel getting to it, cleaned out the jets, they are defiantly clear and the spark plug is getting a strong blue spark and there is plenty of 2 stroke oil.

No matter how much the engine is cranked however the spark plug seems to be dry as a bone.

Any thoughts on what may be stopping fuel getting from the carb to the cylinder?

Without taking it apart more I cannot see if there is anything more between the two however I wouldn't expect there to be.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated..

Best regards.

How sure are you that it was petrol?

Have you dismantled any part of the bike?

Need more info Smile

Does it have any compression?

All I've taken off is the bottom fairing, air box and carb.
When turning over there was air flow through the engine as I put my hand behind the exhaust and felt it.
No smell of fuel from the exhaust though.

As for compression, I will have to go over with my compression tester later to be sure.

I am pretty confident it was petrol and not diesel however if it was, the carb has been cleaned out and and its still not getting any petrol through.

Interestingly, even with a strong spark the engine wouldn't fire up using carb cleaner (substitute for easy start).

I really think I'm missing something here as there is defiantly fuel getting to the carb, the jets are clear, no restricted air flow and there is a good spark.

It does only really leave compression however I would expect to at least smell fuel/wet plug after cranking for a while with no ignition but not even that's happening.

One last thing to mention, for a little while apparently the bike has been reving up to roughly 6,000 rpm of its own accord. It has an auto choke however if this was faulty I would be surprised if it kicked the rev's up this high...

Strange one this.

Cheers for the input guys.

Best regards

I don't know the bike but has it got reed valves or any other kind of valve in there? YPVS is one other that I remember.

Normally sits between the cab and cylinder.

I'm presuming it a 2 stroke.

sorry.
Yep its 2 smoke.
Its been shipped off to the dealers, was only told its still under warrantee after I had a butchers heh.

Will wait on them to find out what it was as its a pretty curious issue...

A note on the reed valves though, as possibility if they were broken and letting the crank case pressure back out through the carb however I would still expect the engine to fire...

I am starting to wonder if it really could be compression on a 13 plate Rolling Eyes

Best regards.
