Hey Guys!

I get these fairly loud sounds when I shift down, it sounds a little strange like something is being hammered in the gear box!

There are no sounds when shifting up and there are no strange sounds when riding on gear (no hums).

Just only when slowing down.

Also is it okay to shift when you are pretty much stationary and the revs are just idling? For example, when youve just done a high speed run (on 6th gear) and you have to brake to a halt, can you first slow down before shifting to 2 or 1st gear? It sounds especially harsh when I do this!

Do your bikes leap forward (a bit) when shifting up from neutral for the first time in the day (i.e. after a cold start)? Mine does this.. but only when starting the first time.

All these question..! Cheers for any help!

Right i cant help u with the gear box ut i suppose getting it checked out wouldnt hurt but what i can say is dont worry about the jerking from a cold start it is becuase of the wet clutch in your bike . this can get sticky and therefore jerk a bit but i suppose you could get it skimmed which might solve the problem.

hi i had the same problem if its the same prob as me (sound like it) then its your chain and sproket my chain was stretched and needed ajusting.
the gears will clunk when your not moving because the chain is loose when your moving it wont because the chain is pulled fairly tight by the movement of the front sprocket.

i would get it sorted asap i didnt and had to replace my chain and sprocket because of it.

Thanks ctyson18 and Novamuncher for your replies!

It could be the chain.. because I saw a lot of slack on it.. and wanted to get it tightened.

What if you also got noises when shifting down while breaking? i noticed this happens to! It sounds painfull :( Could this happen because the chain is slightly loose?

Thanks for your help!

I get a similar thing, mainly when goin gdown into first. Last coupla days ive been gettin ga nasty rattlin gsound as well, somthing tells me my chains about to break.... :o
The chain is well fucked tho, I had the bike serviced dec 2000 and was told that id need a new one after that winter! Theres a coupla tight spots on it now and some rust as well - I think ill take better care of my next one!
I do have a new one but Im just waiting for the rear sprocket before I fit it, im trying to keeo my miles down till then.

Okay so I got the chain tightened and its a lot better!

But I still have a noise and a leetle bit of difficulty with shifting back to first... any ideas or is this normal!

Oh and also.. lately.. the bike does not seem to rev up soon after a cold start... but after warming up this is fine.

It seems to have a 'miss' soon after a cold start... hmmm.. and take a bit of fiddling with the accelerator to get it going.

ANy ideas?

It's always good practice to let your bike warm up before riding it.
