I have gotten a huge hole in the right side crankcase and I wondered if it is worth the money or possible to fix this hole.

heres a pic link so you dont have to download..

If you wanted that fixed it would need welding then the entire thing cut flat perfectly. It would be a better option to get another crank case unless it's cheaper to have it welded then machined. Is it a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke engine?

It could be welded. I wouldn't bother.

What's it off and how much do you give a shit?

I'm looking at that and thinking you could probably lumiweld it back in place then glue an aluminium patch over the outside with JB weld for good luck. Do up that bolt last.

Another (really, really bad) part of me thinks that if you were to put the bolt back in so that piece was held onto the cover with an appropriately thick piece of paper gasket, coated the broken edge in instant gasket then bolted the cover back in place, it'd probably be oiltight.

It's not like its pressurised, it just needs to be oiltight.

Both are bodges. The latter an utterly horrific one (although I know people who'd try it, might have myself once upon a time). Both have the potential to dump your engine oil out at any time.

Just find the elves that were working on the pit and dirt bikes at the BCF BBQ. I swear, they made a piston out of grass at one point...

Fixable with a top quality aluminum adhesive / epoxy or as said aluminum weld. Both are probably cheaper and less hassle than splitting and replacing crankcases

I would clean the break with acetone or similar to remove any oil residue. Then chuck some sort of oil resistant glue/liquid teal etc in the joint, bolt in opposite casting and join it all up. One set remove case and bolt, tidy it up. Apply more gloppy shit and put it all back together and ebay, you can get the outside looking standard as the inside will be sealed and no one will ever know there's a join!

Are you suggesting that you do a substandard repair and then flog it to an un-suspecting person?

Edit: It appears that there isn't an option to rate a post 'This person is just a cunt'

is it wrong that I hear the derp song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooNbVgSSguI in my head while picturing him hitting it with a hammer. "Smack, Smack, Smack" scratches head, "this is on tight" "smack smack smack, Yay its off!" "awwww"

I'd try a durafix welding rod and blowtorch, have successfully welded a hole in my VTR1000 clutch cover when I dropped the bike damaging it.

Think more along of the lines of an engineering firm, or some one who fabricates aluminum parts.
If it got tig welded I reckon they could probably do it in the frame, if they "braze" it, probably have to remove the engine.

Personally I would give this a bash first https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JB-Weld-Marine-Weld-Dont-Scrap-It-JB-Weld-It-/281371219315?pt=UK_Home_Garden_FittedCarpets_Underlay_SM&hash=item4183081573

Clean both edges with acetone or at least a strong degreaser and then give a light sand right before applying the epoxy.

Sand ( with rough paper about 80grit ) the outer side of both parts all the way along the break line about and about 10mm extra in all direction ( so 10mm longer than the break each end and 10 mm wider all the way along)

apply a fair bit of JB to the break and push the broken part in until its flush with rest of case ( light tap with hammer may be needed to seat it back together)

Squash the extra epoxy on the OUTSIDE of the cases against the break to make a "patch" over the join, on the inside the epoxy will squeeze out of the join, so trim it off with a knife or scraper ASAP before it sets, also wipe the inside with a damp rag to remove any extra after scraping.

Double check the piece is in proper position and let set.

Dont fart on with outside too much, concentrate on getting the piece aligned and inside clean you can sand the outerside when its set

I'm sure some normal home superglue would do the trick on that.

Piston out of grass is unfourtunately a myth, however I did make a working inlet boot out of an inner tube, some old mastic and superglue which seemed to double the power output of the superped & resulted in a few flipped wheelies. Laughing

Didn't you donate a sock at one point as well?
