I recently bought a replacement graphics card for my PC. World of Tanks on full graphics runs fine, maybe not as high a frame rate as I expected. I tried Battlefield 3 on full graphics and within a few minutes the PC switches off and starts up again. No errors, just a click.

I only have this problem when I run battlefield 3 in full graphics mode. I had assumed that my power supply was a bit underrated but I've checked and it is supposed to be 875w, model is N875EF from a Dell workstation. I tried https://support.asus.com/powersupply.aspx and it suggested a 700w supply.

There are not a load of cards in the case, basic specs are:
Processor - Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5650 @ 2.67GHz
Video Card - AMD Radeon R9 280

PLDS DVD+-RW DH-16ABS ATA Device [Optical drive]
Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB [Hard drive]
ST250DM000-1BD141 [Hard drive] (250.06 GB)
ST3360832AS [Hard drive] (360.08 GB)

24 GB RAM

A couple of 100mm fans.

Any thoughts on why it might be playing up?

replace that shitty psu would be the first step.

you will need a decent single rail PSU. the chances are that cheap dell thing is multi rail and cant hack the pace of alot of current on the a single line (you will most lekely need at least 2 12v line to the gpu) and the over current protection is kicking in, or its just crap - i am going for the later

Check temps
Check the event logs

You will need a new PSU anyway.

Now I have a sweat on because I just bought the same video card from a forum member and I'm worried he's just taken my money and run :p

If the problems are card related, which I'm confident they're not as I tested the car thoroughly before posting it, then Ichy will receive customer service of the highest quality.

On a slight tangent, dydey90 didn't buy from me, I assume he bought from someone I sold a card to who was then wanted to fit watercooling to the card but was unable to so resold the card.

That is me Laughing

Card ran totally fine in mine, but is non-reference so I couldn't watercool, so bought a different version of the card that was a reference design.

On another note, I run the cards fine from a Corsair CS650M PSU.

It does require 2 power cables to the card, 8pin and 6pin.

I don't even have the card yet and things have already escalated into a new CPU, motherboard, RAM and a blu ray drive. My DVD drive is having an identity crisis and firmly believes it can only read CDs. That's what I get from a £10 special...

Ste, I'm 99% sure it's not the graphics card. I'm fairly confident that it is a mix of poor PSU and limited cooling, being Dell the CPU doesn't even have a fan on it. I've an Antec case turning up soon so I'll sort out the PSU and cooling once I've worked out if the motherboard is going to fit.

Fill a washing up bowl with cooking oil and stick the computer in. The oil shouldn't be conductive and therefore won't affect the workings, but not only should this provide adequate cooling, the CPU can now be overclocked beyond all reasonable limits and you can use it to cook chips.

...You're welcome Wink
