Samsung S3 - Turned itself off, won't come back on

Got an S3 which I've had for 18 months on contract with Orange. Just come out of contract and switched to Giff Gaff, as I have no desire to upgrade to the latest and greatest phone.

Literally at the end of the day of it being switched to Giff Gaff the phone just turned itself off.

It wasn't running any type of updates or anything, it was just on the home screen and turned off.

I thought the battery was goosed, ordered a new one off Amazon which showed up today and that doesn't work either.

Baffled as to what's happened to it, anyone had something similar happen to theirs?

It's not rooted either, it has never been messed with. Orange sent an unlock code and it was used to switch to GG.

Might be worth trying your local "Much fixness, many bargain!" stall or kiosk.

S3 are known to have this "sudden death" issue. But it should have been fixed a while ago with an android update (4.1.2 I think).
Did you do all your updates? Mr. Green

Was getting worried then as I've done the same, but I've been running on custom firmware not long after I got the phone.
So if it now dies I'm blaming this thread Smile

The S3 has been taken to a repair shop who said they will get back to me tomorrow. It's either brown bread or it's some how hard bricked.

Not sure but Orange fobbed me off saying I was no longer on the system, so I hung up. Took it to a local phone company who said to leave it with them and they would get back to me.

You couldn't get personal if you tried, what people 'think' of me on the internet is irrelevant.

They would take 2 weeks to fix it. This phone shop is a friend of a friend and he's just going to let me know what's wrong with it, I haven't paid anything yet.

If it's something simple and costs £20/£30, I will just pay it for the convenience, not really arsed about having it done free, I'm one of those impatient types who'd rather pay more to get something faster.

I don't actually want a new phone, the S3 is great. I don't even use apps on them, just ring/text/maps (rarely).

I could probably get by with a 3310 Very Happy

I want the S3 fixed.

So the shop that had it couldn't fix it. They were trying to re-load the software but it would get half way through, then fail.

Currently trying to get get Orange to sort it out under warranty.

Had this with My S3, got a txt... unlocked the phone and it switched off and never came back.

Took It back the EE store (this was 2 months before i could upgrade so had it about 17months) they sent it off for repair and it came back fine.

I was told in the store its a fault with the phone that allows the phone o over charge its battery. This in time degrades the circuit ways and eventually causes a short on the PCB

I think it took them around 2 weeks to fix.
