Hi
Our son went out on his bike tonight for the first time ( it's been off the road for a couple of years ) , a hongyan 125 , anyway to start with the bike ran fine - until it ran out of petrol ( he forgot to turn it on ). It restarted ok , but he stalled it when a car in front of him stopped sudenly , this is when the problem/s started.
When he tried to restart it the starter just kept going turning the engine over but not starting the bike , removing his finger from the button and it still kept going , he then turned the kill switch off - nothing happened starter still going , then the ignition - again nothing but sill going. Anyway the starter kept turning the bike over until the battery ran out of charge.
He pushed the bike back to our house , about 10 -15 mins away , where I found I could bump start the bike and would run fine but with no ignition , neutral or brake lights working. Once we got it back home properly went to take bettery out and found it was red hot to the point of being too hot carry , even now an hour and a half later it's still warm.
So a couple of questions - any idea's as to what would cause it to keep turning over even with switched off and keys out ? ( thinking possably starter button or solenoid ) and do you think the battery will be ok after this ? , it's only a couple of months old at the most.
Sorry for the length just thought I'd explain as well as poss.
Thanks , Adam |

I think you have more than 1 fault here - If the starter motor won't stop spinning, either the solenoid is stuck, the start button is jammed, or there's a fault in the wiring between the two.
Ignition and lights not working could be a different wiring fault or a blown fuse.
Check the battery casing on all 6 sides before you charge it, to make sure they are all smooth and flat - i.e. no cracks or bulges.
Don't re-connect the battery until you have sorted the starter problem - you will get a large spark when you try to re-connect the - lead that could cause the newly charged battery to explode.
When disconnecting the battery, always remove the - lead first and re-connect it last. ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)
