So I posted a thread couple days ago about a loud exhaust and I've pretty much fixed it and tweaked it to the point where I'm very happy with the sound and loudness.

Put in an 8 inch baffle, didnt work on its own, stuffed in & around it with steel wool and now it sounds more muffled which is perfect.

The question is, will I encounter any problems as a result of stuffing steel wool down there? It can't ignite or get blocked up can it? I did a 20 odd mile test run to see if anything was bad but nothing strange happened.

It runs a little rich. I noticed this when I was fiddling around with the amount of steel wool i was stuffing in and was taking it off and on for test runs, I noticed the inside of the downpipe was wet with what smelled like petrol, which so long as it doesn't damage anything, I'm not too fussed about.

tl;dr was stuffing exhaust with steel wool a good idea, will it damage anything?

Thanks.

Regular steel wool can ignite, yes. At best it'll rust away pretty quickly. You can use stainless steel wool, or simply fibreglass.

If you can get the can apart in order to wrap the baffle, that should do it.

Cheers guys, shit yeah forgot about rust (lol) will be getting stainless for it then.

wr6133 O.o that looks like a kitchen towel? lols.

I can get the can apart to wrap the baffle yup.

Ste I wanted something louder than stock because the stock was very quiet, but didn't want something so ear-piercing that's why I've got an in-between now. Loud but not crazy loud.

The steel wool will burn away. You'll end up with the loud can that you've parted with money for, whether you like it or not.

Yeah I just rode home and it wasn't fun.. Bike seems to have massively lost top end power, and accelerates slower. Maybe I over-stuffed it. I'm gonna remove everything tomorrow including the shitty makeshift baffle, slap the loud can back on and just ride it loud Laughing I give up loud exhaust, you bloody win.

inb4 noise complaints.

It's almost the same as no exhaust, but just a tad quieter and a more deep sound. I could try to do a fly by video but as with all videos on youtube you can never hear it as well as you could in person.

Most supermarkets sell stainless steel scouring pads for £cheap - you will find them near the washing-up liquid.

I use them for everything you would normally use wire wool for, as they last longer and don't fall to pieces so easily.
