Honda Vision 110 or Peugeot Speedfight 125 for commuting

Hi all,

Been a couple of years since I had my last 50/125cc scooter and been searching the net for a new one, plus advice etc. Seems hard to find info or forums for 50cc-125cc scooters so I'm here seeking advice.

Now I passed my car test the right side of 2001 so could get a new 50 without doing the CBT. Done it previously for a 125 but expired now. All modern 50s seem to be restricted to 28mph? which would be fine for my 6 mile commute but feel a little extra speed may be nice when travelling along quicker A roads, its bad enough getting bullied on the push iron and fuel consumption/ running cost difference seems little between a 50 and 125. I'm not looking to move on to bigger things in the future, this is just a cheap and quick way for the commute to work and nip into town.

So after trawling the net I have found 2 scooters I like.

1. Honda Vision 110 - Good for 50mph, 4 Stroke and the promise of 140mpg and hopefully excellent reliability.

2. Peugoet Speedfight 125 - Good for 65mph, 2 Stroke and around 70mpg and well rated in reviews i've seen.

Which machine would you guys choose? All help/advice appreciated.

Is the Speedfight 2-stroke? I know the older 50/100's were, I believe the 125's 4-stroke (but could be wrong).

Technically 50's from 2003 onwards were restricted to 28mph, I say technically as most would do around 35, apart from the crap chinese stuff which would do a genuine 28mph... twice.

If I were getting a 'ped I'd get something truly cheap and crap, Honda Sky (SGX-50) comes to mind

Only spend more if your gonna buy a 2-stroke, and throw lots of money at it like a 16yr old.

Yes my mistake the Pug is a 4 stroke also. I'm not after cheap and crap, rather spend the cash and have a machine that will hopefully work on that cold winters morning. Both around 2k. Not keen on second hand market due to the nature of the beast and what its previous owner may or may not of done.

SH125's are also meant to be popular. Couldn't tell you whats the best

I was actually looking at Speedfight 100's myself recently, and some do go extremely cheap. However I kinda assume they've all been used and abused by teenagers.

You might be ok if you go for something more commuter targeted. Obviously you know about depreciation on a new bike, I won't bore you with it

Current pugs are Chinese rebranded. Not sure when that began but my 2007 V clic is a rebranded Qingqi. So if you want the pug find out what it is in it's Chinese form then buy it vastly cheaper with a Lexmoto/Sinnis/Baotian/Pulse badge on... it would be exactly the same thing.

another vote for honda pcx or sh125 here

my pcx was taken from me by a carless bmw driver but was ace for commuting on

Look into the pcx if you're open to suggestions.
Mpg is good, wheels I believe are bigger than other scoots and the resale value seems OK

Thanks guys. The Honda PCX 125 is now fully on my radar.

My dad has just swapped a 2011 ER6N for a new PCX125, and it does look quite a solid and impressively designed and put together 125. I've only heard good things about the PCX, so if you can get a good deal on one, I don't think you will be disappointed.

In my experience of commuting on two wheels scooters aren't the best option. I found I got poor fuel economy and my rollers wore out all the time. They are agile but also fairly unstable, have you considered a 125 bike?

Fwiw in terms of scooters with larger wheels my missus is very taken with the Peugeot Tweet.

Still, probably not on your radar with such a girlie name.
