I was wandering if you could regester an NSR125 in the united states. Majorly the newere ones like 97 on up. Does anyone have a NSR125 in the US that is regestered here. I live in Houston, TX and was thinking of buying one new from Europe and having it shipped over here. Thanks a lot.

Apparently, imported bikes are generally more difficult to register in the 'states...even sports 400s, like the RVF is difficult to get road legal (I dunno why though)...and like Craig said: isn't there an issue with 2-strokes in the US? Confused

Its easy to hide the fact that you are riding a derestricted bike, or you need to wear L plates or things like that... but riding a 2 stroke when u aint supposed to, is VERY noticeable

Hi

It may be possible, but it will be VERY difficult.

2 strokes over 50cc are banned in the USA. Some get in as race bikes, but Aprilia (for example) do a special version of the RS250 for the USA which is partly race prepared (basically so it is difficult t put it on the road).

You will need to sneak it past customs and hope they dont notice it is non compliant with EPA regs, and has illegal headlights, indicators and just about everything else.

Then you will have the fun of trying to get insurance for it.

Dont worry, it is even harder to import a car from Europe to the USA.

I know someone whose wife has an Aprilia RS125 in the USA. He told me that the new boss (of the past couple of years) of the EPA was into bikes and had closed many of the popular loopholes used to import bikes. He also mentioned that one person he knows had tried to import a batch of RS125s but had been caught and basically ordered to destroy them or export them. Needless to say he exported them, and then got hit for import duty back into Italy

All the best

Keith

yep ban 2 strokes over 50cc but still pump out more crap into the air than any other country, yep sounds like a typical government to me.

Mmm, but there are some people (like me) who like 2 strokes. Yes I have quick large engined 4 strokes, but a little 125 2 stroke is still loads of fun

when your older 2-smokes wont be avaliable in the uk either, you have to remember that >- is tony blair and > is george bush (>->). we will be called the United kindom of america soon. seriously though i heard or read on mcyclenews that 2smokes were under investigation because of emissions. i bet theyre no where near as bad as a 6.7 ltr dodge viper ow whateva. sill government, silly mr blair silly george W bush

Hi

2 strokes are FAR worse than 4 strokes for emisions. The only emision that is really going to vary much with engine capacity is CO2, and that is probably not of any relevance (check out https://www.john-daly.com/). All other emisions from car engines (and USA emision laws are strict) are based on the volume of various specified pollutants, with no allowance for engine capacity.

As an aside I got a local car MOT station to stick my 1200 Bandit on the emisions check. It just about passed the test for a non cat car, but would not have a hope in hell of passing the cat test (hydrocarbons were not too horrendous, but the CO was 3.2% when the limit for a cat car is 0.5%). He wouldnt even touch a 2 stroke as the emisions are so bad he wasnt prepared to risk damage to the testing equipment.

All thebest

Keith
