 |
|
Hi all, me again...
As my hornet has been tucked under a cover for a good few months I took it out around the block today.
(I do start it relatively often)
It feels, different. The steering feels seriously different like stiff when it's straight and then when it wants to turn it really wants to turn!
Wondering if this could be down to the head bearings stiffening over the winter not being used much?
Anyway, my real concern was the engine, it sounded a bit 'mis-firey' when pulling away up to around 5k. Almost like it was firing very wrong. Then after 5k it took off and sounded as normal.
(This was after she was warmed up)
I thought some ham fist might help so gave her a good old run through the revs, but still, as I pulled off from low mph it sounds like it's running very rough indeed.
Does anyone have any ideas? Is this normal when you leave a bike for a bit?
Thankyou! ____________________ 07' Honda Hornet now full powaah! My guide on performing an oil change! |

Would be checking tyre pressures, making sure brakes are free and check the head bearings |

Thanks guys, tyre pressures were pretty good..
What's the best way to check head bearings get the front wheel of the floor and give the bars a left to right to feel them?
And hmmm. Water in the tank doesn't sound good. I will fill up straight away next time and see how she goes.
Should I not be too worried about the rough low rpm's?

Going rough at low rpm could be caused by a dirty air filter, or a exhaust leak combined with the O2 sensor not getting the right amount of exhaust gases.
If it was carbed then I'd suggest they are out of sync, but your motorcycle is fuel injected. Can the DFi units be out of sync? ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

That would cause the right opposite. Water with fuel make a small ball of slime in the carburetor bowls, due to oscillation. When you are not revving the engine, the slime ball sits on the bottom, when you open the throttle, it's being sucked into the jet clogging it, causing hesitation and stalling.
If you open the throttle very, very slowly in neutral, it will let you rev it up to the top, but never under load.
The 5k mark OP talks about could be also the moment a piece of dirt clogged one of the DFi units and then got through into the engine at the same time. That's why the problem got away so quickly. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ
