Hi , I have recently bought a 1984 Suzuki TS125. There are a couple of things I need help with, firstly is it possible to derestrict the engine at all? And also am I able to adjust the rear shock to stiffen it up a bit?

Many thanks in advance

James

The old TS 125 was not restricted, there are tuning options and mods but IMO they are best left alone being a reliable and durable engine in standard form, one option was to find the older TS185 engine but they are like Hens Teeth. Considering the age of the bike the Shock is most likely fecked and needs to be replaced at this stage of the game.

There should be a rear shock pre-load adjuster, but bear in mind that an 84 bike could have a cheap and nasty pattern shock fitted long ago, if it's not got the knackered original one still fitted?

The engine was restricted from 22 to 12bhp by an exhaust restricting washer in the header pipe. Again not many 84 bikes will still have a restrictor fitted. I'm not sure if later TSX125's also had the AEC chamber fitted like the RG125's did? If so then to fully de-restrict one you would need the spool valve and servo motor with wiring to plug into the CDI, which would give you the last 1-2bhp or so.

The TS 125 engines were air cooled had had no power valves , servos or plugs and were not restricted, they had nothing in common with the RG models. At best a TS 125 engine made 16-17 bhp afeter tuning before it exploded.

I totally agree with you, but I was assuming being a 1984 TS, the OP would be talking about a liquid cooled TSX without actually mentioning the exact or correct model of bike.

If I'm wrong, please ignore all the bollocks in my post above!
