Anyone have any recommendations? I was stranded last night and Tyreweld that C_dug very kindly brought to me just pissed out of the hole.

The guy who fixed it used these figure 8 rubber band things with a load of glue.

I want a kit that can be used at the roadside, isn't shit, and that I can lob in my bag and forget about.

I use a 9-part Tire-Tackle kit, and a tube of bicycle inner-tube glue. It's one of those rubber string & darning-needle kits. Works very well, as far as I'm concerned the repairs are permanent and never leak.

This one

I've tried others but this one is the one I have the most faith in. Done bike and car tyres with it.

Hope you never do since three CO2 cylinders into a big-bike back tyre won't even register on a pencil gauge. I found out the hard way, four cylinders and 200+ pumps with a mini bicycle pump got it up to 18psi.

I use this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/GRYYP-CARGOL-TURN-REPAIR-MOTORCYCLE/dp/B00313JSHE

But I've never had to use it. Like you, I was stuck once and needed RAC and bought this afterward. I haven't needed it since.

The reason I went with this one is it looks really easy -- you twist a screw-like thing into the puncture, break off the handle, then pump up. It's probably not a permanent fix, like the glue/rubber kits, but it will get me home and/or a garage, which is what I want. I wouldn't trust a tyre I had repaired, anyway.

I don't use the compressed air things. I have a small compressor that plugs into my 12v, which I also haven't used except to pump up an air mattress while camping.

I like the look of that, would you say the fix is permanent?

I would say so yes. The bike tyre has since been changed due to the tyre reaching its wear limit with the plug in place, the car tyre is still on the tyre and holding pressure no problem.

I can only see US links for that. How does it work?

Interesting to hear about those gas cyclinders, I was thinking about just using a bicycle pump combined with someone hopefully passing with one Laughing Thumbs Up

I got this recently after my "what tools do you carry" thread... no idea how good it is as never had to use it yet but reviews seem good.

That's the one I use as well. Pretty straight forward, plugs from the inside out with a mushroom plug, and wipe clean easy to follow instructions that fit in the wallet for goldfish memory type folk.

Pugged Matt's tyre and he bought himself a kit!

Can't really go wrong with it, any you don't have to touch sticky strips either Thumbs Up

And just to add, as Andy mentions, if you see the nail/drill bit/screwdriver/insert other offending item here, get your kit ready, primed and when you remove the item, ream and insert plug quickly to avoid a major loss of air. If that means reading instructions first to familiarise yourself with the steps, then that'll save you a lot of time once it's plugged. You should be able to remove item, cover hole with finger, realm hole and cover hole with finger, plug tyre with very little air loss. Just be prepared. Thumbs Up

Just remember to add a pair of pliers to the kit. Also, make sure the you giver the hole a good reaming (ooh matron) until the reaming tool is moving freely in and out.

Yes, the better the realming, the better the plug. And I also bought these: https://search.ebay.co.uk/171748771570 and threw in as many as I could to fill out the pouch as you will (depending on when you see the tyre's state) probably need more than what's supplied.

You ream out the hole with a round rasp, push a string through the hole in the darning needle, smear adhesive (not supplied) on it then wiggle it into the tyre until half the string's in, then pull the needle out. Lastly slice off the excess with a hobby knife (not supplied).

I carry an electric tyre inflater that just happens to sit nicely in the space in the middle of a coiled Almax under the seat. The Fazer also has convenient spaces in the tail tidy where I wedge a mini cycle pump and a tire-weld spray.

Yup, mushrooms for me. I've had one work where strings (and plenty of vulcanising solution) had failed to seal a hole twice.

The Rema ones failed for me - I'm not sure if the insertion tool was bad (too sharp where it holds the plugs?), but the plugs just ripped when being put in (with plenty of their vlucanising/lube solution used). The Cargol ones (bought in desperation as it was a Sunday and it was all the local bike shop had - no strings!) didn't work as the hole was too big. They don't inspire confidence anyway, being hard plastic.
The Stop'n'Go kit works perfectly!

Funny you should say this the guy who fixed mine ripped 2 of them Laughing

From peering over his shoulder, I THINK the problem may have been it stretched it too much without 'warming it up' on the third one he stretched it more progressively and it worked.
