https://www.rg-racing.com/

They are different for different bikes.

They all fit in the same basic way of you remove one of the engine bolts and replace it with the R&G bolt which has room for the mushroom to fit. Have a look on this page on their website about fitting them, it does say that it is details for the F model ZX6R but its the same on all bikes really.

They're not hard to fit, I managed to fit mine with drilling my fairings without breaking anything.

You can get them at lots of bike shops or R&G have them in their online shop.

They're either black or white, so if you've got a white or black bike you can get them the same colour as your bike. Razz

You can get cheaper crash mushrooms, the ones which fit to the fairings and don't need you to drill your fairing but they're really not worth having. They mean your bike is likely to be more damaged in a crash, as rather than sliding along the ground keeping the fairing off the ground like R&G type ones they hold it slightly off the ground and as its not mounted strongly (just held on by the fairing screws) it can easily be ripped off taking a nice bit of the fairing panel with it.

I've personally crash tested R+G crash mushrooms and can vouch for their effectiveness. Wink

I'm getting some R&G bobbins for my Zx6R too....
Think it requires you to drill holes in the fairing to fit to the frame. Stay clear of fairing mounted bobbins...

I was abit unsure of getting the fairings drilled but popped by my mates the other day (he's a bike mechanic from his house) and there was a 54 Reg Mille R in and the bobbins saved his bike. Low side spill and all the damage mounted to a scrapped mirror, front fairing and exhaust! The Mille's fairing where drilled but when the bobbin is on place, you don't know the difference. Slick fit....

Says it all, bungs are a must.... Thumbs Up

I had some motrax ones till a few weeks ago. I thought they would help. They didn't. In fact I believe they made the damage worse.

I have a ZX6 too and the bungs for ours require you to drill through your fairing but I'd rather that then damage the bike (again). The other ones ripped the fairing off the bike. Not good.

While you're at it, have a look at fork bobbins and swingarm bobbins too. Not necessarily R&G for those (They don't make them for your model but will soon be making them for ZX9R C1 which might fit). Look for some bar ends too

It may be £100 but it's cheaper than repairs

fork bobbins run through the axle of the front wheel and basically protect the fork ends if the bike slides along the road. swingarm bobbins have a dual purpose. The stop the swing arm being scraped and act as points for hook-style paddock stands to grab on

Check these:

The R&G ones are not that easy to fit to a ZX6R. It takes about thirty seconds to fit them to a GSXR, but it took a dealer over an hour to fit them to my ZX6R and they had the correct drilling tools etc.

The only drilling tools you need are a drill and some drill bits. Confused It's time consuming in the same way most thngs where you have to take the fairings off are, easily be able to be done in an evening after work and you can't really fuck it up unless you drill the hole in the wrong place.

Water bottle also needs changing, along with some fiddily shit (apparently). All I'm saying is that if a mechanic found it a royal pain in the arse, then I'm not trying it! Pay someone else £30 to do it for you Thumbs Up

Or even better, remove the fairings, change the coolent bottle, give the insides a good wash and clean the outsides of the engine, spray on some FS365 (warm engine and salt spray = corrosion), drill through the fairings and put on your R&Gs. Simply done.

It's not hard to remove the side fairings on a ZX6, even I managed it with only 1 arm.

Thanks people.. I heard about having to get a new water bottle ( one with a hole or something???) I'll get it done in the next few days.
Even though I'm being really gentle with the clutch and throttle, I still forget I'm not on the wee cbr, the front wheel comes up and I have a "ohmygodohshitohohoh...phew!!!!" moment. Embarassed Embarassed

R & G supply the appropriately modified water bottle with their crash bungs. If you send the old one back to them they'll give you 10 quid for it.

Go here and then head up to B&Q/Homebase/Focus and get one of those plant sprayers to spray it on with. Much cheaper that way.

I'd be worried that in any serious crash, where fairing mounted mushrooms would smash off, sacrificing the fairings with 'em but protecting the frame, frame mounted ones would transfer shock directly to the frame, increasing the risk of damaging the frame Confused

Any truth in that?

If the fairing mouts are directly onto the frame then you just remove the fastener and fix the shroom instead. These things are only designed for low speed or stationary drops. If you chuck it down the road nowt short of full crash bars will help you. Mate of mine dropped his bike at a standstill with fairing-to-frame mounted shrooms and didn't get a scratch. I did the same thing without shroom and it cost me £1400 to replace all the plastics!

As with any accident, there's an element of 'depends how it hits'. However, decent bungs seem to prevent problems in 95% of accidents - the bolts holding them are designed to give a bit I believe (certainly bent mine) so you'd have to try really hard to knacker your frame... an accident that bad and you'd probably be fucked without the bungs too.

Fairing mounted mushrooms are pointless in the extreme. Frame mounted ones do the business. In my case, I still 'trashed' my fairing (depends on how anal you are about such things) but the important bit was keeping the engine off the deck, which they did admirably.
