Automatic tax payments still coming after selling bike.

Hi guys, I paid my tax on my bike, and chose monthly payments.

Sold my bike a few weeks ago, and posted v5 to DVLA. Also sorned my bike a few days ago to be careful.

The sods still charged me a fiver today.

Any way to get that back, and make sure they stop it. The total gits.

You shouldn't have to do anything if what you say is correct and you can prove you sold it before that tax was to be paid:

VED is payable to the end of each calendar month. Was that payment for May or for June?

If you're sure that it's for June and that you SORNed it in May, and that the DVLA have spacked it up, then the direct debit guarantee kicks in:

You may need to bawww a bit to get it back, but they should cave. I'd suggest doing this rather than approaching the DVLA, because screw those footpads.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but this got me thinking.

Recently sold my bike and bought a new one, obviously sent all docs off but got thinking about the monthly DD for tax, immediately cancelled it.

i'd suggest everyone does this when selling a vehicle, no doubt some will end up getting charged for another month before its all been finalised at the DVLA...i suspect this was a sneaky way for the Gov to get more money.

Reminder: VED is payable to the end of the calendar month in which the keeper changes.

If you sell on the 1st and your DD is due on the 15th then DVLA will reckon that you owe them that month's tithe.

Its all just a legitimate scam to get more monies from everyone.
Their excuse, it would cost more to implement a system that accounts for days in the month would cost to much --> BullS*it, competitively they would lose out to much!

Every time a vehicle is now sold the VED is revoked under the old owner (until the end of that month) and the new owner needs to tax it from the beginning of that month AKA they get double the VED for that month for that vehicle by design!

Talk about backwardly blatant state scam.

I'm a software engineer, databases, that's my thing, 'Big Data' is still (relatively) in its infancy However I bet the DVLA are no doubt still running a 20 year old legacy system and will sit on their hands until 2050 saying 'to expensive to fix this problem' given half a chance!

If they can digitise VED and paper liscences etc the adding the day to a date isn't going to be the end of the day.

Yes to the previous two posts.

VED is a means of raising money. It has no direct merit and it's extorted from us by threats. They have no incentive to do anything in our favour.

Surely, sell vehicle and cancel DD... I did when I sold my car in June so they couldn't take another months payment.
