Hit a pedestrian, what happens now?

Hi everybody,

I just had an incident this morning. Basically I was overtaking a queue of stopped traffic, and a lady crossed between the car, looking the other direction obviously.
I managed to swerve to avoid her but she hit the topbox and fell.
By the time I parked and crossed the road to see her, an ambulance that was passing by stopped and took her in, she seemed to be okay but I don't know if she has any injuries or not.
Police came a bit later and asked me the usual details etc... and told me I was good to go.
What will happen now? The police guy told me I should call my insurance to let them know of the accident but I have no ideas if the lady is going to escalate the incident or anything so I'm not sure if I need to call them or not.
A cool guy gave me his number as witness, saying he would say that she wasn't looking, had earphones on and that I wasn't speeding.

Topbox looks fine, it popped open on impact but looks like it's not broken or anything

Call your insurer, won't do any harm.

They might ask you to obtain some other information as in the police reference number like unknownstuntman said.

If nothing else it will demonstrate that you have followed through on police advice and observed protocols (should it escalate to court case).

So I`m guessing that you didn`t have time to rifle through her pockets and handbag to steal her money oh well!

No claims discount goes into abeyance for 3 years whilst they await a potential third party bodily injury claim that may or may not come and should they do their job properly they'll deny liability on anyway.

But you should definitely inform them I'm afraid. Not worth the risk of not doing so.

I was just calling them and going through the 5000 questions when the line cut and now the call doesn't even connect MCE ftw
That was weird though, I had to say like 3 times I didn't hit another car but a pedestrian.

They did the same when I rang to report my friends accident when he rode off the side of a cliff. The amount of times I had to state they can't speak to the policy holder and I can't confirm his date of birth because he's in hospital and I don't know it, was untrue.

It got better when they kept ringing ME instead of him when he got out of hospital to try to settle his loss and then conveniently forgot the Data Protection Act because it suited them.

They're just hideous at insurance, life and everything in between

Based on a recent experience in court jury duty for a week from a similar situation with an unfortunate worse outcome from the accident and the potential for rider to be spending 14 years in the nick.

I would ensure you do everything by the letter of the law and don't ever lose your witness contact details. phone your witness and get him/her to write down their recollection now.....as should the shit hit the fan and the worse happen a good lawyer can and will rip a witness to shreds especially one trying to recall events from a while back.

I had an eye opening experience of how this shit works, be very careful. Don't just assume that she will be deemed totally at fault.

I'm so glad everyone is ok from this, scary stuff really it is. My IAM assessor giving me bollocking for dithering in town he can eff right off!

I'd have stopped. Told her to look before stepping into traffic and went on my way. I'm sorry but if it was a car she would have been fucked. Just removing one sausage from the gene pool.

I would not mention a word of it to my insurer.
