At my wits end - Peugeot speedfight running problems

So i bought this peugeot speedfight 2 100cc off ebay, hadn't been used for 5 years, very good condition, previous owner took for MOT and flew through.
I bought it as spares/repair as owner said it started and stopped after 30 seconds or so and i thought it sounded like main jet blocked.
So i receive the bike and clean the carb and jets and it ran perfectly, took it to work for 2/3 days, it guzzled fuel very quickly. I put £5 in and it was gone after 20 miles.
Anyway it is doing the same again now, it will start and run fine off the choke and then if you give it some throttle it will die, or just die after 30 seconds or so.
I've checked everything i can think of, spark, cleaned the carb 5 times, even bought another carb and choke, same problem, took head off and inspected, some light scoring, nothing major, cleaned air box, reed valve off etc. What next? It's doing my head in. Thanks

To get through £5 of fuel in 20 miles, you're doing 20 mpg. I doubt that's possible on a speedfight, so I would be expecting fuel to be leaking - either somewhere between the carb and tank (if the tank is steel, it could be rusted through) or a knackered needle valve in the carb letting fuel through when the bike is standing and filling the crankcase, then chucking it out of the exhaust. Possibly out of the overflow on the carb, if it has one.

So, fuel system check - fuel tank and line for any evidence of fuel leaking.

You've mentioned cleaning the carb a lot, but not whether you inspected the needle valve for wear. Little point taking a carb off unless you're inspecting and cleaning it, you can just end up cleaning a broken part.

Check float level,check the jet SIZES. The previous owner may have changed them .
Check the exhasusdt is standard, a non standard exhasusdt means its been fiddled with,not like BBC dj s, also check the air filter is standard and the plug is clean ' deepthroat' pulling all the crap from the inside of plug.

Does it have a manual fuel tap or a vacuum "petcock"? If it's the vacuum type, it could have a duff diaphragm and be pulling fuel straight into the inlet and also cause no/little fuel to flow when the throttle is pulled.

Right, so I changed the coil and she runs, I took it out for a run and every time I hit 45mph it loses power and doesn't gain power until about 30mph again, any ideas on this? Also could a dodgy coil be the reason for losing so much fuel as the ped was running very rough before. Cheers

You could try a different coil or\ and cdi unit.....if available...
