Have you checked the valve?
I stopped to help a guy last Saturday who had a puncture on a Honda super-scooter, he was stuck on Ebbsfleet roundabout. He had a can of tyre weld ready to go but the tyre was off the bead and anyway we couldn't find any sign of the cause so instead of putting the gunge in there I got a canister from my bike's puncture repair kit and seated the tyre got it partially inflated. I told him to follow me to Sainsburys to pump it properly but before he could get on the bike it was flat again.
So we used the can of tyre weld and it pumped the tyre up. No sign of any leaking so we rode to Sainsbury's filling station and inflated the tyre fully then used the water tap to check for leaks. Nothing, it was completely air tight. Now since it is very odd that a tyre should deflate instantly and then hold air I started poking about and found that the 90-degree rubber valve had split at the base. When you bent it a little bit it leaked profusely.
Anyway, I got him to follow me to my house and went looking for a new valve. Tyre place down town only had car-length ones so we fitted one of those but it was too long and the end of the valve hit part of the hub once every turn. In the end I pulled the valve out of my spare 'busa back wheel and fitted that for him, go him on his way. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Goop is good.
When I eventually changed my back tyre, I found there were 4 small punctures, but Goop had taken care of it and I wasn't aware.
Probably won't help my current dilema though - new tyre keeps breaking the bead and slipping off the rim ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)

Had a couple over two years. Both in tyres that were getting a bit low on tread anyway. So figures I guess. Also had a loose valve once, which totally foxed me as a slow puncture for ages.
Do you ever inspect the tyres and prise out all the tiny little bits of stone that are embedded in them? I was told this was good practice, as otherwise they remain and gradually get pushed deeper and deeper as the tread wears and can eventually cause a puncture. Can anyone back this up, or is it just urban myth? ____________________ Beginner Biker Adventures Blog

I got my first puncture on my first day of riding after passing my CBT.
Went out on my GN125 into what is essentially the Yorkshire Dales (not really within the official park boundary but it's much the same), and after coming over a small hill I knew very well indeed, everything went spongey and sluggish at the back, the bike started weaving around weirdly and I knew something was up. I came to an awkward, slow, weaving stop at the side of the road, surrounded by grass, countryside and no help in sight. Turned out I had a 'very fast' puncture. Found a thick, bent rusty metal thing in the tyre.
I was stranded there for a short while, then a doddery old farmer drives by with his old Hilux and a trailer. He pulls over and sees what's up, I tell him I've a flat tyre. He offers me a lift into nearby Masham, telling me he I'll have to sit "int'trailer" because his dogs "int'frunt". He had a very strong local Yorkshire farmery accent.
I showed the farmer the thing that had given my the flat tyre. He looks at it a moment then says, "Ah that's a stapple thar'is, you've gorra stapple in yer tyre."
Stapple....?
It then dawns on me, I had a staple in it. One of these

He gave me a lift into Masham, saying it was to prove the local garage owner that he was actually a good person who does do good deeds (I guess they were friends or something). I sat on top of some hay in the trailer with my bike for the couple of miles into the village, where he took me to this garage with a wanker of an owner (who I'd dealt with before) who said he doesn't do bikes, then told me to try another smaller garage nearby. I wheeled my bike a few hundred metres to this other place, where the guy tells me he also isn't really supposed to work on bikes, but he does it anyway, gets the tyre off, plugs it and I'm good to go.
Faith in people restored
Never had any other punctures apart from that. |

I went for about 10 years without a puncture then had 3 in about 800 miles. After that, I went another 5 years without one but I've had 3 this year.
It's a PITA but I put it down to the amount of building work going on around here. ____________________ Suzuki Bandit 1250
