What's the best way to tackle steep, longish hills from a more or less standing start? Have a dekko at the clip, and tell me how you'd tackle this (gear changes at what point, body position, etc. etc.) (go to 10:49):

He chose the low center of gravity option which on that particular hill seemed to work. Untidy but effective.

Mixture of leaning backwards and forwards, backwards to ensure there's traction to the rear wheel and forwards so it doesn't loop.

Getting as much speed as you can at the bottom of the climb and hope you've got enough momentum to get you over the top part! I bet that hill looks 10 times worse when your on the bike Shocked

Quite probably 3rd gear and don't even think about changing gears after you've committed to going up the hill as I'd expect trying to do so will see you lose momentum (very quickly) and come to a halt.

Body position... forwards. If you've got enough speed & momentum then the back wheel won't be fighting for grip as much as it would be if you were going slower.

Thumbs Up
