I gave her a bit of stick last time and had no issues. I may just do the same again. Confused

I took her for a spin round the block last night and it seems to pull quite well, it feels really tight and crisp. The revs are very responsive. It pops a lot on the overrun, so much so flames were coming out the exhaust, I could see this in the daylight, it would look awesome at night. Laughing I don't know if this means it is massively lean or massively rich?

I can't tell much of a difference with the new chain and sprocket combo, I guess I've given it a bit more power and it can pull the new ratio better, it still lifts the front wheel OK in third. Twisted Evil

She pulls like a champ. Or as best as an air-cooled 250 four stroke will. I kept over-revving her though, I'm used to the rev hungry two stroke now. Embarassed There are no flat spots all the way up to the rev limiter. Yes, I hit the rev limiter with less than 2 miles on the new rings. Twisted Evil Right from the bottom, you can smack the throttle wide open and it just revs up.

She is just running very hot. I pulled the plug and it suggests a bit lean, not a lot but just a tiny bit away from just right, I may go up a size on the pilot and drop the needle clip one position, possibly up again on the main, but I'm not sure If I need to go up more or not, I might just buy the jets and then see if they need to go in or not after adjusting the needle and pilot. Got her in for an MOT today, she passed with only an advisory on the front pads getting slightly low, which I was weighing up changing before test anyway. Now to let the system update, get some tax on her and go for a burn! Twisted Evil

Gearbox kersploded on the way home, I ended up stuck in 4th, limped her home. I'd just done 300KM, so I was going to drop the oil and filter, recheck the valve clearances and run a compression test again and check to see if it was running lean or not too, to start playing with re-jetting for more oomph.

It's a bit naff, I'm not sure whether to drop the engine out the frame and tear into the gearbox or not. If I did, I'd send the frame off for powder-coating and really go for it, but I'm not sure if I enjoy it enough for the cost of doing that.

Ouch, still at least you hadn't had the whole lump out before this happened, which would have been a bastard as you'd have to take it out again. Glad the engine was performing well before your box went all spazz though.

You love this bike too much to sell, and you've had it that long and done a lot to it, I just can't see you ever getting rid of your trusty TTR. I would say fix it and enjoy it again, or if you don't want to do a shed load of work on it right after just putting it back together again, then put it in the back of the garage for a month or so and go back to it when your ready.

I can see you wanting to change/upgrade the CRM before you ever sell this! Laughing

I posted on the TTR forum and apparently what can happen is the post that holds the return spring for the gear lever can snap off and cause spazziness inside the box.

I took the exhaust off today, to check out the state of the exhaust valves again, they seem a bit white for 300KM's of use and the plug looked a bit white too. Sick But I suspected it was running lean anyway, after the mods, re-jetting is going to be a fun game. As I was putting the header back on, the stud on the right hand side rotated round in the head and pulled itself out taking the thread with it. I'll probably need to heli-coil that stud back in now at some point. Embarassed

It may go on hold for the time being, like you suggest, I would quite like to get out and about on the GPz this summer, and after a set of tyres and fork seals, it's just a carb clean and plug change, should be all set for MOT then.

I had a look inside the TTR yesterday, turns out it was that post that had snapped.

It's not very clear but that section of casting has snapped off from the post directly under the clutch. So, that needs gluing back on! Thumbs Up

Just bought a TTR250 Raid for £750... Absolutely love it! Really fun bike, so much lighter than my Divvy 900 Embarassed

Mines running pretty tall gearing, was 14-44 when i got it, i put a 13 on the front.. But mines mainly road running.

Before that incident happened, I could lift the front in fourth, sat down! It would still do about 80-85 flat out as well. Hahaha, no mercy, I was meant to be running it in as well. Twisted Evil

If you get the chance, the re-bore, I can't remember the size now, whatever the largest Brian at TotallyTTR's sells, Laughing and port and polish made a great difference. I think the shortened stainless header and the DG O pipe helped a bit too. I need to really sort that exhaust stud out and gear lever post. I was thinking that maybe it was running a bit lean because the header wasn't tight to the exhaust port. I should just buy a load of different jets really. Rolling Eyes

So after a long, long tine... I finally got it bodged and on the road.

I got the students at the college I work at to make me a bracket to support the gear lever return post. It mounts to where the kick start should have mounted, but mine wasn't fitted with one from the factory.

Got it mot'd. It passed with an advisory on front pads low and something else. The front brake is binding when it gets hot, I think it's the clamp on the fork leg trapping pressure in the bottom section. It could also be the fact it stood for three years. When I put a set of pads on, I'm going to put my braided lines on i had to help with braking and just because braided lines. Laughing

Regards front brake, I'm sure a set of sintered pads, fresh fluid and a stainless line will really sharpen it up a treat!
