Well..finally got it finished and listed on eBay:-
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-GT750-/271977011786?hash=item3f5317da4a
It is just about exactly what my brothers will look like...same model, same year, same colour, same standard strip, same pipes even. Mine won't be as nice tho, that's a really nice looking example going by the pics, check out the excellent finish on the side cases, most evident in the pic showing the sprocket cover. Yup, good job that. Mine won't be as nice as I'm not doing the frame. The frame is too good to strip down and do again, looks like early stove enamalling and very resilient... but it does have some small parts that will need touching up. No marks from getting the engine out I may add There will be other parts that won't be as nice as this one too but if I keep it on the road, it'll be done over time. ____________________ Space Is Deep |

They've got some smart tasty equipment at that Cambridge re-bore place!
Then again so have you with those shiny slugs, hope they are staying on your coffee table for a bit until your ready for them.
Did you notice much of a performance increase with the Higspeed pipes over the std GT exhausts by the way?
They look good, and sound better! I think there's some stigma against stainless steel spannies for ultimate engine performance, but then all the big custom 2stroke exhaust builder's offer stainless pipes, so I'm thinking 'the resonance factor is all wrong' statement is close to a load of bollocks?
Honda did spannies on the NSR500 in Titanium and they didn't seem to hinder mighty Mick's five GP championship titles too much? |

I thought you was just a very fast worker and already on your 2nd GT750 restoration lol!
I hope the engine goes back together smoothly, and I'll be interested to see the clocks when they come back restored too. I imagine that restoring instruments is one of those restoration tasks that's next to impossible for a home restorer, and very difficult and fiddly work too! |

Picked up the cylinder block from the reborers today and found this
https://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j71/Drewskovitch/Jap%2070s%20bike%20toys/Bike%20toys/PA243394_zpsvxohfanr.jpg
Notice how thin the sleeve is on one side compared to the other. I couldn't understand this as, when you have a rebore, they work from the centre...so it's vurtually impossible to get off. So I had a look at some pics I had before and realised it was just another case of Bazookis fine engineering
https://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j71/Drewskovitch/Jap%2070s%20bike%20toys/Bike%20toys/P1010022%202_zpsbvi904xe.jpg
Just need to chamfer the ports on this block, for those not familiar, this is just taking the sharp edges of the top and bottom of the ports, (the big holes inside the cylinder). If you leave them so accute, they can snag on the rings as the pistons go up and down, and I need to clean off the remnants of the base gasket. I'm trying to find a not-too-expensive OEM head gasket at the mo, Robinsons Foundary...one of the best UK suppliers for Suzuki OEM parts charge £75 for one I have a pattern one but, from previous experience, I find OEM gaskerts the best. I may use the pattern one as It came with the bike. If it leaks, it'll have to be an OEM one. After spending quite a bit on things like the crank, it's easy to just think "sod it, I'll just pay" but you can save quite a lot on these smaller parts if you shop around and there's no better time to shop around since the internet took off. I find a good way to find NOS stuff is to just Google the part number and check all the foreign web sites as well as the English speaking ones. Russia seems to be getting better for hard to find stuff, depending on which bike. I'm going to shop arund B'ham for replacement bearings this week too and order the expansion chambers, (they take about 6 weeks). I won't be getting the clocks back from the restorers until Xmas so no big rush, 'can't wait to hear this engine running again though ____________________ Space Is Deep |

Thanks Shaft...no, I hadn't seen him. I've gone with a bloke in the States, found him on the Kettle Club website and I'm scared to look at your link in depth in case they're half the price
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoIFBljCS2E
He is very good, if a bit expensive but I know these things cost. I've seen a few sets being sold as "restored" on eBay for about £250 to £300 but they're nothing like the quality of the guy I'm using. I've ended up with two sets of clocks and asked him to make a good set out of both and see if he'll do a PX deal with what's left over. What I should have done was just buy a set of restored clocks off him and sold the old ones on eBay. The gear indicator light isn't working on mine, I thought that could have cost a bit to put right but someone pointed me to a cheap chinese indicator unit that transplants into the Suzuki holder.
I've been wondering what to do with all the chroming...there's quite a lot of it! Most of it isn't too bad....probably 6 or 7/10. It's been re-done but not as well as it could have been. "Deep" chroming isn't cheap, people are paying up to £350 to get a front mudguard restored and re-chromed properly. ____________________ Space Is Deep |
