Hello all! As I am getting older, its getting increasingly difficult to see on these dark nights, and about half my 22 mile commute is down unlit roads (a508 Northampton to Milton Keynes). I'm looking for additional lights to brighten things up a bit and give a better spread of light without blinding people coming towards me, and when I hit main beam, I want daylight. Happy to put more than on to get the dip /main beam feature that I'm after.
Bike is 900 diversion. Any suggestions gratefully received!
Cheers

B4 lashing out on whole new lamps and the fitting faph. Why not try a proper bulb? Smile

I use these in cars and bikes.

https://www.piaa.co.uk/

They are much better than those 'extra' powah bulbs from Phillips etc.
They are a bit pricey but better than standard and even if you fit aux lamps a brighter head lamp will help too.

For proper 'usable' lights you will be looking to spend at least £100.

e.g. https://www.nippynormans.com/products/engine-bars-and-sump-guards/item/wunderlich-spotlight-set-for-engine-bars-black-wun-28380-002

or

You can get cheaper but they don't push out as much light and look like shite too.

Before any of the above bollocks, make sure your headlight is correctly adjusted so that you dont have a massive puddle of light directly infront, it should be spread evenly down the road. Too much light up close will limit your distance vision, only a fraction of the light gets reflected back and your eyes will not be adjusted for it. Any additional lights, if not fitted and aimed properly, can make distance vision worse.

I intend on fitting these spotlights to my FZS 600.

I am not familiar with the Diversion 900 but I know on the FZS 600 one needs crash bars for auxiliary lighting because there's no where to mount them without looking PaulFzs pikey.

Those will be equally as rubbish as your last pikey set, what happened to them?

Once you have made sure aim is correct you could try these bulbs

Philips Xtreme Vision H7 +130% More Light

I just fit them to my Z1000 and they are much better than standard.
With the original bulbs I found it hard to judge corners at night but feel much more comfortable with the brighter bulbs fitted.

Before conforming to kamdra's bollocks consider the other bollocks.

It's all bollocks.

Also OP there is the option of HIDS if you do not favour spotlights.

Awe naw..... Smile

You can 'really' only fit HIDS that are approved for the vehicle.

They are many times brighter (than the sun) but they can blast out that light in the wrong direction.

Fitting HIDS to a standard lamp/reflector can end in a tug/fine/imprisointment/repatriation to Slamabad.

If you want to risk it it's your arse.

It is a minefield of wrongs to negotiate fitting HIDS unless you can comply.

How old are you? I had trouble seeing a night and it turned out to be cataracts on my eyes.

I have some of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-10W-CREE-Spot-Beam-LED-Work-Light-Driving-Lamp-for-Motorcycle-ATV-SUV-UK-Ship-/311302981669?hash=item487b1a8825:g:i7YAAOSwrklU7ZKa

Mostly trying cheap lights before i fork out big money for some denali or PIAA lights. I have one set low and slightly left as an aid to my dip beam and the other a bit higher and straight ahead and set to come on with high beam. They're on a bar level thereabouts with my headlight. They work impressively well on high beam, dip supplement is really useful on tight and uneven surfaces. Could be a bit better focussed but being able to see the beam pattern in the fog shows the light goes roughly where i want it.

However im in my early 30s and my vision is good. My desire for better lights was based on living in the sticks and doing a lot of night time trips, and having tried a VFR i knew there was way better available.

Thanks for all the replys! To answer a couple of points, I'm 50 and due an eye test, so cataracts should show up then, and the headlight aim is correct. Don't really want to mess about with hids and will probably give the bulbs suggested by mcn a go.
Cheers!

The chap who used to own my Blackbird fitted HIDs and upgraded the alternator and something else.

Lights up everything bar the oncoming traffic. Made me realise how bad the Hornets headlight was.
