Hi.

I have a YZ 250 2 stroke that is roughly 9 years old. Recently it started leaking oil from the motor casing. So I checked it out and it seems like I have a hole in the lower casing right in front of the front sprocket. It seems like my chain actually chipped away at it even though its nowhere close to it. I spoke to a couple of guys and they said that it is quite common for this to happen and that it is indeed the chain.

My question is HOW? And also how do I fix it?
My understanding is that anything yamaha is seriously expensive stuff never mind the belly of the motor casing Sad

Thanks

Best way to repair is to track down another crank case, and replace it as a unit.

There are other options such as using liquid metal, or an alloy weld repair but how effective these would be i would not know. These are a bit of a bodge in my opinion. The alloy weld would require the crankcase to be split anyways so you would be better off just replacing it.
