HI all,
I'd like to install a fixed dashcam on a 2013 BMW F800R. By fixed I mean something installed on the bike, ideally that I don't have to remove every time, powered by the bike's battery, and that starts recording as soon as I turn on the engine. Something I can forget about.

The only such dashcam I know of is the Innov C3: https://www.innovv.com/#!the-c3/c18kr

This guy installed it on a F800GS: https://advrider.com/index.php?threads/innovv-c3-motorcycle-dashcam-installation-on-an-f800gs.1056599/

Have you sued it? Do you know of any alternatives? Thanks

Hi,

I have a Roadhawk Ride which is wired into battery via the horn. It's a fit and forget job as it records on a loop and starts when power goes to it and turns off when you stop the bike.

I have mine fitted under the front of the fairing of my Fazer which means it's out of the way of any scrotes and captures everything in front of me. I didn't want the hassle of a helmet cam, though I have used it there occasionally. Footage is good enough during the day, night isn't brilliant but would be good enough for most situations.

They have a roadhawk ride + out now which is apparently quite a bit better - think someone on here has one so hopefully they'll be able to tell you more.

Cheers

HJR

Thanks! I didn;t know about this brand. Did you install it yourself?
Did you use one of the mounts that came with it? Did you glue it to the bike? How easy is is to remove?

If you want to download videos to your PC, do you just remove the sd card?

I like the look of the Innovv K1 - it's not cheap but it is an apparently well thought-out system with all the features you'd want from an incident camera. It may require some ingenuity to locate the cameras and recording unit discreetly and securely but once fitted it would seem to be fit and forget.

I have the Roadhawk car version fitted in my car and have nothing but good things to say so far. The only slight annoyance is it beeps when it thinks you have had an accident. But it is fit and forget, to view the footage you just take out the SD card and shove it in your computer. Mine has GPS so it also gives me my location, speed and some other data should it be needed for insurance purposes. Every so often I need to clear out the "accident" video off it (potholes etc) as it stores that but loops over the rest.

Hi,

Yeah, installed it myself after a garage I used to use messed it up. It's not that hard to do, I'm a mechanical and electrical noob.

Yeah, just used one of the pads and then put a zip tie through as well just in case. Easy to remove, just unscrew it and leave the cables in place. SD card comes out or the power lead has a USB end so you can plug it into the laptop directly.

Cheers

I have the Innovv C3. Installed the lens under my right mirror with the recorder under the seat. It's pretty good but not fantastic after dark. Some bike vids with it are here: https://www.youtube.com/user/pbmuk/videos. The red splodge in one corner is the fairing.

Edit: If you buy it get the option with a capacitor instead of a battery as that's better when you're powering it continuously.

You are asking for this:

https://www.4kam.com/bike_camera_motorcycle_cam_packages.htm

I am pretty sure you can assemble such system much cheaper.

CCD cameras cost about tenner nowadays £10. You just need to get suitable 2ch two channel dvr recorder.

Edit: can't find cheap 2ch dvrs. The cheapest one is £64:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2Ch-MPEG4-Compression-Realtime-SD-Card-Mobile-DVR-Car-Security-DVR-IR-Remote-/321723785446?hash=item4ae83b60e6:g:KioAAOSwBLlVK1Pr

this one £145

https://www.flyonthewall.uk.com/cctv-cameras-and-systems/in-car-security/anti-vandal-car-dvrs/hd-mobile-car-dvr-with-motion-detection-2-channel-12v-vga.html

Found complete system for £174:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ambarella-A7LA70-K1S-Mini-2CH-Dual-Car-Camera-Dash-Cam-DVR-GPS-HD-1080p-Lesns-/252119877324?hash=item3ab38406cc:g:m-QAAOSwLVZV5p2X

If you want good low light CCD cameras with Sony CCD sensor you need to pay some money:

I don't know what I am talking about.

Cheapo camera £10

Recorder £64.

Power leads. £??

SD card. £??

Mount(s). £??

Plus postage and the ballache of setting it all up.

Alternatively one can get all of that with the innovv c3 for £84.86.

Except Innovv is with 1 camera the set up I am talking about above is for 2 chanel dvr with 2 cameras - one front and one rear. The OP is talking about black box accident recording device not for some hipster youtube see my video helmet cam.

Innov has 90 degrees viewing angle only and god knows how good is at low light. My educated guess is it is very bad in the night.

The "cheapo" CCD cameras I mean are with Sony low light CCD sensor which is in times better in the night. Minimum illumination: 0.01 Lux.

Innov C3 is full 1080p recording. It's very good in daylight, not so good in the dark, but not awful. 120 degrees viewing angle option. I think it's pretty good for £100. I'm happy with mine.

They also do the K1 for a two camera set up that looks really good for £170.

I didn't want to spend a fortune and build my own.

Do not get me wrong Innov is a good ready made set up. I feel you can do better with your own custom set up. At the end of the day Innov are buying cheap Chinese components and resseling them as theirs.

And the 2 camera K1 set up is not theirs. This is Chinese KOONLUNG Dual Car Dash Camera + GPS Logger | Front and Rear 1080p Remote Lens Cameras | 140 Degree lenses | 64GB microSD capacity | Ambarella A7LA70

Which has been sold by many different names and cost about £150:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00TM59NCK/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2FMU73Y2PUG2U&coliid=IBO9T1KFBVFMN

The cameras in K1 set up are much more inferior quality and night light sensitivity then this one which has Sony sensor and costs mere £9:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131553829793?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

and the Chinese vendor makes that clear in his posting:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131623614063?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Quote:
While video quality will satisfy many people, the night quality is a bit worse than the dual cameras which are using the Sony Exmor CMOS sensors

Innov does not give you ANY technical specifications about the sensor on their product.

Show me a DIY set up for less monies than the K1 and I will buy it.

I cannot. The 2 channel DVRs are very expensive. Means K1 for £150 from some Chinese vendor is the best value for money currently.

I do have just bought yesterday 1 channel DVR for £18:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261710246845?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

and a low light Sony sensor camera for £8:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131553829793?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Which will make the 1 camera set up cost me £26.

If I do not find soon cheap 2ch DVR I may just buy second DVR with a camera for another £26. Still will be 3 times cheaper then K1 Laughing

Will post some videos next week Very Happy

Any update yet Val? Wink

I bought the camera on 16th it was ment to arrive on 18th according to the seller. However it appears it will come from China god knows when Rolling Eyes

It is coming. Having said that we know the resolution will not be too great, so I am looking at 4k cameras too now Very Happy can't find any cheap though...found Firefly 6S, here are Firefly 6s vs GoPro 4 Black:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unwTlqN-_Uc

Good news is Firefly is cheap £64 for 4k video is not bad:

https://www.gearbest.com/action-cameras/pp_239152.html?currency=GBP&gclid=Cj0KEQiAvuWyBRDO_Yzhpv_4nvEBEiQANBdXMssHsjMtT1cf0f3YvldbwG9SXIt1UGcX_J4_soY_un4aArhg8P8HAQ

The resolution looks better then Gopro not sure is that too good to be true?

Not good for permanent set up though...

Looking at Foxeer Legend 1 too.
