Have you not looked at the bike closely to figure out where the oil is coming from?
As Polarbear says, a photo would be incredibly useful. Especially if you want us to able to help you. |

That scuff mark where the orange paint meets the black - behind there you'll find a cracked engine side casing.
Remove the fairing, take pictures. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Looks like it was a nice bike you have ruined
I assume the broken off piece is part of the engine casing that has ripped off as the bolt wore down. I guess the thread might need an insert. From your pics I cant see any exposed part of the engine case where a bolt could do this. |

From the third photo is that actually a piece of your crank case? Because it very much looks like it.
If so then you're f00ked. It's going to be a major engine rebuild work to get it properly fixed.
Maybe a welding artist is needed ____________________ Current Bike: Yamaha XSR900 Previous bikes: Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, Kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja, Aprilia RS125 2-stroke |

Like above. It's a major job to replace a crank case. Engone out and all engine internals need to go out. Not to mention a hell of work before you even touch the engine.. you need to disconnect/remove pretty much everything - drain the rest of the oil, drain the coolant, remove exhaust collector and end pipe, radiator, suspension linkages, rear shock, bolts that attach the engine to the frame, before that the seat, tank, air box and intake, injectors, throttle cables, wiring loom, all sorts of vacuum/overflow pipes. If you DIY then all you need is a room/garage, new crank case and gaskets and some bolts replacements and a lot of time.
To pay to someone to fix it will cost a lot. Many, many hours of work
Alternatives are:
- Some welding magician in your area (not likely)
- Whole engine replacement ____________________ Current Bike: Yamaha XSR900 Previous bikes: Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, Kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja, Aprilia RS125 2-stroke |

Thanks for the explanation, much appreciated.
I don't really want to replace the engine as it's got a good engine (only 6400 miles!)
How long does it take to do all of the things you said? I don't really have a garage, would I be able to get it done over a weekend when the weather is reasonable?
If I find a welder, what do I tell him? Just tell him to seal up the hole? |
