Waterproof boots

I've had altberg clubman classics for just over 3 years now. They are properly waterproof and reasonably breatheable. They're very strong. I've dropped a bike on them twice and caught my foot inderneath both times. I got knocked off the bike in the summer of 2014, and had a massive bruise on the part of my leg between the top of my boot and my knee armour. My waterproof overtrousers were cut through, leather trousers had a cut that went almost through from the top of my boot to the top of my knee. Boots had a slight scratch.

Heavier and bulkier than sporty boots, but discreet enough to wear under jeans and the sole has enough tread to manage a muddy field. I find them a pain getting them around the gearshift of a 125, but didnt have to adjust any of the properly big bikes ive ridden.

Yes they look a bit dated. They certainly arent high-fashion gay, or studded enough for judas priest fans though. Possibly a hint of bacon-walt and/or leather daddy about them.

Altberg dont make them any more, replaced by the more modern looking bahn rider. The Clubman Roadster and microlite survive from the old range, the newer roadrunner looking like it belongs in this millenium.

Any boots you like plus Sealskinz

I got a pair of these a few Christmas' ago and rode with them in a regular pair of spidi. Properly waterproof socks (although they feel a bit odd to wear)

I've had a pair of alpinestars web goretex for three or four years. Not one drop of water has ever made it through.

Soles are wearing thin and the velcro is showing some age but still 100% waterproof. I'd buy them again next time.

I've got a pair of Alpinestar SMX-6's, owned them for over a year now and they've been used every day since owning them. Still holding up well and have never let water in. Great boots & look decent too imo.

I tried Sealskinz for pedal cycling in the wet.

They do work and your feet will come out dry. However, you're still wearing cold, wet, squidgy socks and it feels like your feet are damp, so the actual comfort factor isn't brilliant.

I use sealskinz on the pushbike - but usually with at least trainer socks underneath, or going up to merino wools socks in winter. Properly layered, they will keep your feet warm and dry as long as your waterproofs stop water going down the top. I've ridden in horrible conditions for days on end and come out with dry feet, when others have had soggy, puffy, sore feet.

However, wet boots/shoes will still make you cold, and potentially take days to dry out and go horribly smelly in the process - so with sealskinz on the inside I'd wear overshoes on the outside too (and actually did do this with my leaky Black Rains until I got the Alt-Bergs).

So those of you that actually use the surplus boots which ones do you recommend.

There are so many. Para boots, pro boots, haix (brown) boots.

How comfortable are these wearing all day at work.

Choice of altberg or anything else, choose altberg.

Of course altberg make exceptional motorcycle boots as well.

Laces aren't a problem if you learn how to tie them and don't leave big loops. It really isn't difficult, and in my experience far more reliable than zips.

I don't wear the infantry boots on the bike (Aldi (or Lidl, whichever) for me there in winter), but I do wear them a lot in the chillier months as normal footwear. They're comfortable enough to walk in, are plenty arm enough and are indeed waterproof to the top. The only downside is they're a faff to get on and off.
