I want to get into it and will use on the road too (so need road legal) and was thinking of starting on a 250/400 (DRZ/CRF/KLX etc). Yet it's hard to find a decent priced one (imo). So I'm basically looking at any size for a decent price. Any reason to go for a 125? I'm small only 5ft7/10stone.

There's no need for me to buy a brand new one and unless I go for a 125 they're all at least £2300 apart from the random oldies. Found these:

I would've thought there would be loads or at least a significant amount of fairly priced 10 year old ones around.

Any help?

600 too big and 125 too small IMO

I bought my first green laner an XR250 from AP motorcycles.

I sold it to someone on here as a non-runner needing a complete new engine, or rebuild.....Not saying they necessarily ripped me off, but I paid far more for it than it was worth......

I believe someone from here, was it maybe Stinkwheel? Who bought one long distance unseen from them and had a very bad deal?

So in my opinion that short list of 4 is a shortlist of 1.

The DR350, and I think it's over priced.

have a read through this forum, there are no bikes currently for sale under £2k, but plenty have been bought and sold over the last few months, most recent I believe was an XR400 for £1200

reading through the old ads might help you get a feel for whats about and what the prices are

Why is 600 'too big'?
Weight wise the XT doesn't come in much more than your CRF.
You will have a lot more low down grunt - when I was first trail riding on the DR600 I pretty much just used second, with an occasional foray if I wanted softer power delivery on fast bits.

If it's purely for off-road use, usual suggestion would be to go for a 250 or 300cc 2 stroke enduro bike - linear power delivery, very light weight and reasonable service intervals for the performance.
