PostPosted: 01:36 - 18 Jan 2016    Post subject: Accused of hitting parked car. Reply with quote

Was visiting a friend this evening, got home and recived a text asking if I'd hit her neighbours car. I hadn't but apparently she's had a note through the door claiming that a visitor to her house had hit the guys car & it had been witnessed.

Driveway is at a very steep angle so exhaust does scrape the floor coming out, so can see how that would potentially be seen as scraping across the back of some poor bastards car. I also did take two attempts to swing the car out round a parked car that I assume to be the neighbours. I felt nor heard any impact, there is also no damage to my car besides a pre-existing scuff which appeared a few days before and has traces of orange paint in it, the parked car was silver.

She's passed the guy my number and requested I deal with it politely as she's on good terms with said neighbour. What am I supposed to do about this? Get the feeling it's a situation where saying the wrong thing costs me my NCB & I'm being wrongly accused here.

Thanks in advance.

If its been witnessed they should have a number plate reading so they cash report it to there insurance abs and everything can be sorted from there. Else their just trying to get money for nothing

Don't contact the neighbour. If they contact you then don't admit or deny anything, don't tell them your name, don't tell them what car you drive or what colour it is, don't tell them whether you were at your friends house, don't tell them what time you left, don't tell them anything. Politely suggest that they go and talk to their neighbour about whatever it is and ask them not to contact you again.

Contact your mate, tell her that it's nothing to do with you. Say how surprised and disappointed you are that she thinks you might drive off after any type of collision and you're even more disappointed that she's given your phone number out without asking you about it first.

Don't get into any conversation about has the witness got a number plate, what colour was the vehicle that hit the neighbours car, what time did it occur, etc etc etc. None of it is your problem so it's all irrelevant and nothing to do with you so don't get involved.

Personally, I wouldn't wish them good luck figuring it out just so as to avoid them interpreting that as sarcasm.

Caveated by considerations of banging / wanting to bang said 'friend'.

Might be cheaper to just pick up some street meat though.

Bit of a cock-move really. Even if you weren't in the wrong, you're certainly in the crosshairs now.

I should note that I'd said to her to just chuck the guy my number & I'd have a word with rather than her just giving some random my details.

Definitely don't revisit in the car or they'll then get your reg and say, yes that was the one that hit my car.

AFAIC If you scrape bumbers with cars, you know, you feel it/hear it.
If you didn't hit him, tell him, nuh. If there was a witness they'd have taken a reg of the car that actually committed the deed.

Any damage on your car? No. Then photograph from all angles right now and gmail to yourself so you have a datestamp from a 3rd party. Just in case.

Then do nothing, say nothing and as Ste says, tell them nothing. Anything you tell them can give them information with which to falsely incriminate you.

Pictures could have been taken any time. If you're going to do it, do it right: a walk-round video, while talking about the allegation, then a private YouTube posting.

InB4 "yeah actually, kind of noticed what might be a sort of new dent maybe." Whistle

Only new damage on there was from the day before, and has red/orange paint in it from where it was hit outside my flat. Car I've supposedly hit is silver.

Silver car plus silver car = red paint on car?

I had this bullshit a couple of years ago. Guy from the adjoining street was parking his car in on of the three bays at the end of my road, presumably because he didn't want to park it on the road. Somebody dinged his car, leaving red paint on it. He spots my red car parked up, looks around the paintwork, spots some scuffs and phones the police. I talk to the police, tell them it's a 15 year old car with plenty of scuffs, I didn't hit his car and here are my details if he wants to pursue. Heard nothing further.

Like other people have pointed out, if there is a witness, they should have details of your car.

Sounds like when my neighbour wanted me to pay for his caravan to be fixed by blaming me for dents. Just enjoy telling whoever it is to fuck off.

Alternative solution is get a sticker made up with the ISIS flag, slap it on their cars bumper and let the drones do the rest Laughing

You do have a very complicated relationship with your neighbours caravan. Razz

"the blossom from a tree is falling on the caravan and he's worried it will mark the caravan. At that point I absoliutely explode! I mean really over the top swearing and calling him an idiot etc."

"He's worried the blossom will sit on the caravans roof and cause mold to grow."

"I'm going to tell my maneger about the incident tomorrow and take a weeks sick leave"

Apparently support is shown by tying a black rag around the exhaust.

And now you know that, you'll see it everywhere.

Joke's on them, that's an undeclared performance modification. Folded arms

It seems to be Indian subcontinental cultural voodoo, not caliphatist or even islamic. Hindus and Sikhs do it as well to ward off evil, because allah / vishnu / Yogi Bear apparently aren't up to the job.

Actually, if it works, they should have fewer crashes and lower premiums, right? Thinking
