Would just like to say a massive thanks and big up Venhill Engineering.

I have removed the anti-dive units from my GPZ900-A1 so the standard brake line set up is now defunk. I could not find anyone doing a braided 2 line set for the A1, only 5 line sets to replace the standard set up.

Build a line was the obvious option, but quite a bit more expensive.

It was pointed out to me the Venhill do a 2 line set for the later model GPZ's and that they would probably fit. So I bought a set, and they didn't fit, the lines were about 25mm too short.

So initially I though bugger it I will have to try and return it, and buy a build a line. Anyway I e-mailed Venhill to see if they would be prepared to have the set up back even though I had opened it and attempted to fit it, and there was nothing wrong with the set up other than I had deliberately bought it for the wrong bike. They could not have been more helpful, I explained what I had bought and what I was trying to do and they swapped the 2 lines for 2 longer lines free of charge, didn't even charge me for postage on the new lines.

Venhill are not always that helpful

I bought a clutch cable for my XR400SM from them and it would not fit.When compared alongside a genuine Honda item the outer cable was the wrong length.As the place is only in Dorking I took a ride down there one day so as to ask them what they were prepared to do.

Once there I was asked to talk to one of their people that make the cables and this turned into a shouting match as the plonker in the workshop just would not have it that this would make a difference.I assured them that it did,otherwise why would I have made the effort to go there in person.

Instead of arguing further,I went back into the office and explained that I did not appreciate being sworn at by said workshop person.The office person asked what I wanted done,to which they agreed and 10 minutes later I had an exact replica of the Honda item.Luckily there was no charge,but I did make a complaint about the person in the workshop.

They should have kept the monkey in it's cage and dealt with you at the counter. Sounds like they do have a good customer service policy they just let the wrong person loose with a customer.

I always measure, (where possible), and ask by length rather than model when ordering a pattern cable and send the old cable off for good measure......literally! If it's a cable with adjuster, measure with adjuster wound down and make sure they know.
They make so many different sizes and loads of custom cables....you could see why they might sometimes get them mixed up.
'Always had good service from Venhill....a bit painful on the pocket sometimes but they know their stuff IMO.

Venhill sorted me out with a line for the 535. Hel weren't sure whether their own product line was for the buckhorn or the low bar varient and weren't prepred to check and eventually refused to deal with me becaue liability. Venhill just asked for measurements and told me what they needed.

I asked them ifthey could make me a rear brake cable as my dealer was saying they were not available from yamaha, Venhill told me they could make a new one given an old one but told me to try a different parts counter first as they (Venhill) were convinced they were still available.

I have one of their pressure gauges, it's built pretty well and has outlasted a handful of digital monstrosities.

I have used Venhill fro about 30 years but fr cable parts I use Goodridge fro Hoses

Most of them are really helpful and the web site useful but Note they stock things that are not on the web

I do a few odd cables and hoses as we can, and do, make both from scratch but it is not a cheap option !

Whilst on the subject....if you have a few mins to spare...here's a bloke with a faintly recognisable accent, ("wiyuz", "hoele"), fixing his own clutch cable by molding a new nipple.

Hi

Venhill do a kit to make your own cables. Not cheap but useful. Need a decent soldering iron and solder. Makes life easy when you need a slightly longer than normal cable.

Hi

Basically a box containing a lengths (from memory 5m each) of a couple of sizes of outer cable, couple of sizes of inner cable, a large selection of nipples for the ends of the cables and the pieces to go on the ends of the outers. Also a set of cutters to cut the cables without crushing the cables.

They will sell you a bird cage tool to splay the inner cable before soldering but it isn't really necessary (would make things quicker if you are making loads of cables).

I just use my 80 watt soldering iron with some solder and flux to llocate the nipple.
