I've just acquired a gorgeous BMW K1200r but it has an alarm on it and I seriously hate them after previous bad experiences so I want it removed, is this something I can do or is it a specialist job? Will an ordinary mechanic be able?

It will be a max of 5 or 6 wires.

2 to the battery, 2 to the indicators and maybe 2 to the ignition.

Simple enough to remove.

just do 1 wire at a time and connect the wires that have been cut.

What model? The 3.1 is just a cat scarer not an immobilizer, and is pretty good as far as alarms go. If it works, use.

3.1 connects to indicators, permanent live, switched live, ground, and has a senor and switch wire that are often not used. You should just be able to unplug the alarm from the loom kit and be ok.

See attatched manual for 3.1

if it's not a 3.1, and immobilises then it's undoing the alterations made to the loom, will likely have been done with clever tricks. Get a wiring diagram for the bike, blow it up to 4 sheets or a4 or more, and sketch on what has been altered.

If you do rip the alarm out and are going to bin it, can i have the remote?
