Spent all morning blatting about the back lanes, no bother, no problems. Then went for a 'last' five minute blast and it very nearly was my 'last' blast.

Just wasn't taking any notice and failed to see the car turning right until she had stopped mid turn to let me squeeze by as I hadn't seen her at all.

God bless you madam.

Similar day today, had a great morning on some fantastic roads, felt more confident, got some decent cornering, feeling a bit cocky..

Until I came round a corner at 50(ish) into muck on the road from a tractors turn in I couldn't see. Swear I have no idea how I stayed on the bike but my chest was hammering for the remaining 10 minutes back home and I slowed right off. Last time I wobbled that way I came off, maybe you do learn everytime you drop it.

Definite obs lesson.

Can you explain what happened? I've always feared this when I see muck on the road

Basically his pants ended up the same colour as the road.

This.

Didn't touch the brakes or I'd have been off, managed to hold the angle I was at and ride it out before I came out of the corner and the bike was on clear road again. Felt like a passenger on the bike for a couple of seconds, unpleasant.

Don't know how just glad I did!

On Tuesday I'm accelerating hard up a narrow country lane, come out of a bend at about 60mph and there's a dead badger right where I'm heading, swerved and must have missed it by an inch.

So you two wheel drifted it sideways until it regained traction again?

I recently did this in pissing rain and hail in the dark on a high country road in North Yorkshire. I thought I knew the corner well but I guess things are different in that kind of weather. I definitely judged it badly; entirely my fault.

Booted the back brake on and did a super radical awesome back-wheel skid around the whole corner, then wobbled ungracefully back into full control.

Definitely nearest motorbike death experience. I could see the edge of the road getting ever-nearer as I went round.

Heh, I know this feeling too. It must be a 'living in the sticks' thing. Unexpected mud on a corner, you could almost call it a 'T-Rex' situation - to survive just hold your position and don't make any sudden moves Laughing

Guess so, I just tried to hang on until it felt planted again. Just tried to keep some balance, righted as I came out of the corner. Didnt feel like being to reflective about it at the time!
