Jamie Oliver has pissed off a lot of women for telling them he thinks breast feeding is best -

Quote:

"We have the worst breastfeeding in the world.

If you breastfeed for more than six months, women are 50% less likely to get breast cancer. When do you ever hear that? Never.

It's easy, it's more convenient, it's more nutritious, it's better, it's free."

People are up in arms - how dare this cockney chef even mention breastfeeding, what would he know being a man. 'Mansplaining' to women, what a fucking cheek...

Where did this 'mansplaining' come from? Probably a feminist invention. Everyone knows Jamie Oliver is a bell-end but suddenly everyone has to get offended. Women don't want you sticking up for them even if you are trying to do a good thing.

I'll have to remember this from now on, any woman mentions checking testicles, 'manspreading', facial hair suggestions... they will get a 'How dare you, what do you know? we don't need you womansplaining.' - FUCKING RIDICULOUS

Don't get me started on this.

Bubbs wrote:

Correct. If a man has any fair input to make on issues primarily involving women, it's brushed aside as 'mansplaining', because clearly logical input on woman issues is only allowed if it comes from the mouth of a woman.

I mean let's ignore the fact that a man might actually care about the well-being of his own wife, who also happens to be the mother of the child he helped create, for whom he only ever wants the best for. Nope, it can't be anything to do with that. A man with an opinion on breastfeeding is nothing other than a brutish patriarch!

From what I understand of breastfeeding, there's no actual definitive scientific proof that it is "best".
There is a lot of noise made by the believers, but no proof.

Breast feeding is also a volatile subject as not all babies / mothers can do it. Some babies just won't latch on properly, no matter what. The breast is best squad will pretty much label those mothers as failures who are damaging their children, which is just what you need when you're being overwhelmed with a newborn and desperately trying to do everything right.
If you go on any maternity course you will at some point get breastfeeding is best pummeled into you. Once the kids born you do whatever works best. My wife breastfed for a couple of months before moving onto bottles. Her friends child lost loads of weight and went back into hospital because he wasn't taking the breast and she refused to go to a bottle, cos must breast feed brainwashed.

As far as I can see he's stating opinion as fact on a highly emotive subject. Not in the least surprised at the rage.

My facebook seems to be filled with this at the moment - the hilarious messages seem to indicate women are pissed off.

Obviously this question is only for the women on the internets to answer.

Dunno isn't there some sort of tale about how modern farm animals are fed a steady diet of anti biotics?

To be honest it is a fair, breastfeeding vs not breastfeeding is a perfectly legitimate debate to be having.

I only picked up on the part where Jamie Oliver was told to stop mansplaining his personal opinion.

Also, to say he shouldn't use his 'position of influence' to promote things that aren't nice for some people... Well, newspapers, politicians and certain TV shows do that every single day!

As a skirt wearer, I'll dare to venture a suggestion that no, not "all" formula fed sprogs are potatoed.

By manlogic, that of course means that none of them do, because antibodies are just mercury autism antivax global warming.

I'd go off on one about the Chatterati and their leisure time, but Mrs Borg has today been to the gym, her Mumsnet kaffeeklatsch, and is now off to drive half a mile to pick up little Tarquin and Jocasta from school, so Shhh!

Why are so many of them sooooooooo fat then? It's because a great majority of them have NEVER done a
proper days physical work in their entire lives. That's why childbirth is such a shock to their systems. And why
we have to hear about the shitty hand of cards they believe they have been dealt because it's so hard to be a woman??
What a crock, it's a doddle. When I am free for the day (because self employed) I do the cooking prep, cleaning
and shopping, even if I start at 9am I'm all done by 11 and unlike me, loads of them can't cook ANYTHING at
all from scratch, ( I went to catering college back in the day and even before that have always cooked well) so they
lob 'dinner' in the oven for 20 minutes or the microwave for 7 minutes and shove a plate of slop in front of their
fat kids and sexually uninspired partner and act like they've climbed a tree for the veg and spent all afternoon with
a spear hunting a frozen cottage pie. Vastly different from the reality of school run (usually no more than 5 mins drive)
coffee morning, lunch, facebook/tv and maybe a nice cake until 2nd school run. And it's hardly work for them is it?

The dishwasher washes the crockery, the washing machine washes the clothes, (while they sit on their fat arses
yakking and supping coffee at 3 quid a cup) the car takes them to the shop, the trolley carries the shopping,
the hoover cleans the floors, so basically your day of ACTIVITY is putting some clothes in a washing machine,
loading a dishwasher, and pushing a hoover round for 10 minutes?

That's why the bingo wings ladies. It's cos you do Fuck ALL that could be called WORK, whilst claiming you
have such a hard life. Laughing Laughing My mate Dave is a plasterer, his mrs went on and on about coming to work
with him for a day, so eventually he took her along as his labourer for a taste of his life. He had her knocking up
by hand like he had to when he was an apprentice, and lugging the bags of finish about, cleaning the tools
and buckets, washing down the spot board, scraping the floors and whatnot Thumbs Up Laughing She never ever asked again,
and couldn't move for about 3 days. Since the inevitable child (get off work forever green card) she's ballooned
and would benefit from dropping about 3 stone. Dave is still like a whippet, and still plastering... Thinking

Their "hard" lives rarely compare with that of a working man doing a physical job. The only women over
30 you see that are slim tend to WORK HARD to look that way in the gym/sports centre.

ouch that's a bit harsh Grr, I have worked since I was 16, brought up two daughters, been a single parent for several years and dealt with three separate cancers, Im now in my fifties and fat and I dont even go near junk food. I dont think I had a particularly easy laid back life apart from my stint in Saudi where I had hired staff to do the cleaning etc. I was too busy scuba diving all the time and partying then. My ex husband sat on his arse telling people what to do for a living.

PS breast feeding aside, its a personal choice, i think Jamie Oliver is a smug sanctimonious cunt.

Embarassed There are always exceptions. You sound FAB!
It was a broad brush, aimed at the majority I see floating around during my quieter days when I am between jobs/properties.
I see it as only fair since my wife has to turn up at a workplace every day to fully run the house when I am available to do so.
I also deal with the blokey jobs and maintenance of our home during these periods as a lot of the time I am working
on properties for my business so our own home takes a back burner a lot of the time, there's always something to fix.
She does an office job, is 33 and still looks like she did when she was 18 (when I first got with her) but to do that
she does a variety of activities to stay in shape, including bouldering, Scuba diving, water skiing, zumba, yoga,
circus acrobat classes, poledancing and general fitness training. I always notice a bit extra around my middle if I am
stuck on house duties for a couple of months, it always comes off quickly when I get back to work though.

I don't like Jamie Oliver either. I prefer Tom Kerridge. Thumbs Up

My tongue is firmly in my cheek when being misogynistic, My partner is my equal as are my two sisters. They all work hard both at home and at work, although a lot of women who stay at home work very hard to make a home. Smile

Both the 'more exercise' and "don't eat junk" food things are part of the problem to my mind. The one and only important factor in weight when you take it on a base level is Calories in vs Calories out. Have more going in than out and you'll put on weight. Reverse to lose weight. There are of course many factors that can alter that.
