Just registered on this site; thought I would start with a photo of my VFR.. Just bought it in October, so not done a lot of miles .... yet!

https://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m154/alastaircrawford/WP_20151004_10_06_55_Pro_zpsif8lqu7d.jpg

It's a 2002 VTec, 31k miles on it. I've just had the valve clearances done and it wasn't as stupidly expensive as some of the horror stories I had heard. £300 all in by a Honda franchise (North Harbour Honda, Ayr). Have spent some time over the winter getting it fettled ... fresh fork oil, brake pads, and yesterday attacked the start valves with vacuum gauges which has smoothed things out a bit. The fugly rack in the photo has been replaced with a much nicer genuine Givi one.
To say I am liking this bike would be something of an understatement; it's a peach!

Gie's a nod if you see me around the roads of Ayrshire and further afield once the better weather arrives!

Thanks. Not bad for 14 years old; I don't think it has seen a wet day. Now that it lives in the west of Scotland, it had better get used to rain Sad .

Ha ha! Sadly you can multiply that nearly 4 times to get the true age. But 14 seems like yesterday Shocked .

How does the vtec feel on bikes? I used to have a Civic Type R and the vtec has a noticeable 'kick' to it - wouldn't fancy that on a bike! Must be quite smooth?

Not over the top but you can feel it. It's like suddenly the bike found extra 30 bhp and can't wait to put them to good use.

300 is cheap, barely covers labour cost for the full job. I'll bet good money they only did the easy rear non VTECs like a lot of garages do and if they're ok then claim the fronts were too.

Yes I'm cynical but I've known it happen more than once.

The way VTEC works on the bike is very different to what it does in the car. The infamous VTEC 'kick' is mostly induction noise; if you study a torque curve from a well-tuned VTEC engine it is pretty flat, with a small hike at VTEC swap. What the VTEC really does is allow good low-down torque and a screaming top end (usually these things are mutually exclusive with fixed valve lift/timing).

Nice looking bike though - I always fancied a go on one just to see what the fuss is all about. Thumbs Up
