Ive just bought a carbon fibre 'Micron' can, its about 15 years old, unused for 10. good condition, nice quality can... however it doesnt look like any micron can ive seen before, usually they have a rubber gasket at each end rather than the rivets and that plate/badge with 'MICRON' etched onto it seems unusual too. any thoughts? Confused Smile

The only thing I can tell you about that Micron can stamp is that E13 is the country code for Luxembourg

Cheers. And the 'E' marking does mean its road legal, right? Smile

Have you not been watching the news? That was tongue in cheek and in response to the morons who now feel it's acceptable to demand anyone looking remotely 'foreign' to go home.

Don't know about that can, but the Micron that came with my T'cat was really quiet, so no issues there.

That said, the exhaust on my R1 is really loud and the number plate is tiny. The tiny plate came when I bought it, but I was given a full size plate too for MOTs. Never fitted it yet. Never had a spot of bother from anyone about it yet! Not even the MOT tester Very Happy

The exhaust has arrived, looks tidy and half the price of a new delkevic can... You'll have to excuse the shitty iphone pics Rolling Eyes
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/IMG_4695_zpsex3zevb1.jpg

badge is fitted wonky, im not confident this is original, but whatever
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/IMG_4692_zps26fxm6if.jpg

i drilled out the rivets and filled the holes with exhaust gum
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/IMG_4701_zpslgdk9jfj.jpg
theres a glossy rectangle left behind where the badge was so i sanded all the carbon fibre lightly with wet and dry to give it all the same matte finish, touched up the smoothed over holes with black engine paint and clear coated the lot with a high temp lacquer

The picture is crap quality, but the can's actually got a nice shiny/satin finish. I'm pleased Thumbs Up

I read that a few years ago these plates were available to buy as a way of disguising a non road legal can "look officer it has 'E' stamped on it Laughing " this can wouldnt of had a baffle, it doesn't even have the fitting for one, so that makes sense. However i fitted it the can last night and its not what i would call 'loud' it has a nice deep grunt to it but not such that an MOT tester would deem it too loud for the road

Good work, im sure this bike is starting to take shape now

By the way i have seen micron cans in this design before, not many but they do exist. Yes it is down to the discretion of the mot tester whether its quiet enough to be road legal, but if its not that loud and doesnt have not for road use marked on it, i think it'll probably be ok. have a chat with them at the garage before hand or just put the old can back on. Its best to have no markings on the can at all than some b.s writing though, i would of taken that badge of too

cheers guys Very Happy

iv'e made some more progress today.

the orange indicator lenses make the bike look dated so i bought clear ones and orange bulbs...
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/IMG_4661_zpsmlvvtylh.jpg

which i think are a big improvement, they suit the black-cat really well, especially with the bits of silver. £22 well spent i reckon Very Happy I fitted blue windscreen bolts not that you can really see them in these pics
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/Tcat%20Front_zpse4ztejvy.jpg

And from the arse end
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/Tcat%20Rear_zpssn5ywwal.jpg

Next job: these bikes got a big old fender on the back and it doesnt seem like an easy bike to get a tail tidy for, so i decided to cut it and make a sort of DIY tail tidy instead.

marked up as straight as possible with tape as a guide
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/IMG_4684_zpsrj2uy07i.jpg

i dont have a dremel with cutting disk or a jigsaw so i cut it with a pair of tinsnips while on the bike. i angled off the sides and tidied the cut with a file and some sandpaper
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/IMG_4689_zpskbjyytf1.jpg

Bought a smaller 8'' x 6'' plate, and fitted it an inch higher. The rear end looks neater now but the plate is still big enough to stop the indicators looking a mile apart. The new can fits nicely too
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/IMG_4719_zpsdaggtwu9.jpg

finishing touches to the can. all in cost me £82 Smile
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/IMG_4733_zpsjlcvzjcd.jpg

next the swingarm needs to be changed, i left it until last to give the paint time to fully harden. i also painted the wheels satin black around the same time

Very nice! I love the early 90's style Micron carbon can with the late 90's Micron decal fitted.

The late cans were really well made, re-buildable with nice rubber seals at each end and stainless fittings and end plates.
Couple that with the serpent hydroformed full race systems that made gains like Akrapovic systems, and it still puzzles me how Micron went out of business?

If they were here today, they make a fair living just out of re-producing the famous 80's two stroke systems for 125's and 250's for us older people wanting to spunk cash on re-creating our early bikes with the mods of the time.

Early 90s ey?? i shouldnt think you'll be too impressed by the next couple of pictures. i took the bike out for its first ride with the new can today, and i was rear ended at a ring road junction, by a lady who was heavilly pregnant and who's mind was probably elsewhere. me and the bike hit the ground, im okay but the bike the bike's fairing is scuffed and cracked, there are two dents in the tank, handlebars are bent, right indicator looks like it could be broken, and the micron can is destroyed. doesnt look too bad from a distance, but its still going to take a fair bit of work, money and new parts to put right. i have the ladies insurance details and i will be making the call tomorrow. it does beg the question why does this sort of BS keep happening to me Rolling Eyes

Thanks for sharing mate, that looks awesome. Was it just the front fairing that was damaged then? Also how much did the respray cost if you dont mind me asking?

Yes it is a great bike and ive really enjoyed riding it so far, so im not letting it beat me. I am a bit pissed about that exhaust though, but To be fair theres not a great deal wrong with the bike. I am struggling however to find someone local who can remove the dents paintlessly from the petrol tank, i know it can be done quite easily but a lot of companies will tell me it cant so they can respray the tank and charge me 3 times as much

Perseverance Cool

I went the chinese fairings route as I pretty much beat up the entire right side plus the front frame that holds everything together. I think everything was bought via ebay including a tail tidy/undertray combo which was a pyramid item I believe, I notice you've cut your undertray like I did and I wasn't happy with the result.
The chinese fairings lasted very well until I sold it 6 years later, only issue I had was pebble dashing on that piece of plastic before the headers. The cost of the fairings was between 3-400 I think the nose cone and RHS fairing was more brand new from Yamaha so it was a no brainer really.

really happy how well the rear fender turned out, it doesn't look like its been cut down at all

Your body kit actually looks really good, i wouldnt be able to tell its chinese. Plain fairing like those dont seem to be available on ebay any more though, They mostly have crap ripoffs of yamaha designs, and you have to put a plastic cover over the tank. Getting mine repaired and sprayed up seems to be the best option at the moment, but i'll see what's out there

When I was looking for mine I had to filter through the Yamaha/Fiat/Rossi colours and I got lucky one day, I did notice a couple of plain ones on ebay amongst all the flame designs.
I didn't even attempt to put the petrol tank cover on it looked out of place. That's why I had the red YZF on panel and white Yamaha lettering on tank, it bugged me for a few years.
