Got an Oculus rift when the DK1 kit was just released, was a nice idea but not really usable. Never got round to developing anything for it. Mainly I was annoyed that it wasn't upgradable at all. Have since bought an OSVR - once I get SteamVR to talk to it nicely, I'll be pretty much set for gaming.
Cost buggerall compared to the Rift, too. ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |

We are now Vive owners too.
OMG! hand controllers!!
I was like a little kid, lighting torches, Vanishing realms was the game, only played for a little while but ooo magic!
PLayed the portal based game. I had 2 gun things in my hand. The controllers give you that bit of extra illusion. Short but cool.
Also tried a game that I have no idea what it's called
blue and orange ball things fly at you to a star wars remixed funky music style and you have to touch either blue or orange (or both as purple). The controllers give some feedback, feel like you are actually touching the balls. Excellent stuff!
Oculus are really missing out not having their controllers already.
Room scale is also the thing. Sitting down with a joypad is nothing compared to the ability to move around and actually touch stuff. |

Not sure it would work with games not optimised for vr but the games I played were made with vr as the focus.
The teleport thing works well. More like a point and click effect.
There is practically no sensation of nausea for me when using the vive. Because I'm in control of all my movement I guess.
Teleporting to the edge of something is weird though. The drop! Makes me move away from the edge!
Funny how the brain can be fooled |

That's what I'm talking about, there's a lot of games that have been made to work with VR.
It's still possible to use a 360 controller with the Vive though? |

Didn't know about vorpx, looks interesting
Have only used the controllers so far with the vive, but it is xbox controller compatible, among others I believe.
Will have to dig out Inquisition and see if I can play amongst dragons |

I picked one up a week or so ago for £60. Wasn't expecting much, but wanted to see what was what.
In all honesty, I've been totally blown away by it. Playing Dreadhalls is the most genuinely immersive and creepy gaming experience I've had. Watching your 3d movie collection whilst sat on the moon doesn't seem to get boring either!
As a little taster of VR, it's well worth the money IMO and has totally convinced me to let Sony take my money as soon as PSVR is released. It's also a lot nicer to use than a cardboard as you get the Oculus hub to launch from, and a full set of controls on the headset.

As much as playing VR games is probably endless fun, what's the best thing so far in VR that's not a game?
Is there any photorealistic stuff that's good?
Anyone doing any 360 VR roller coaster stuff? (Not a game)
I remember them domes as a kid which played real roller coaster footage on a giant curved screen which made you feel like you were on it. You'd sway back and forth stood up right, usually found in fair grounds / theme parks.
Also remember going in a fighter pilot simulation machine totally off my nut on a cocktail of uppers, it was fucking terrifying and the fact it was inside a large hydraulic machine that was like a 12 seater plane, made it even more terrifying when it was banking left and right and doing steep climbs and dives.
That's the kind of stuff which would lend well to VR I think.
Oh and pr0n |
