Rode a 140cc Supermoto Pitbike for the first time today at Kinsham Raceway.

Besides the bike not lasting long (bogging and cutting out) and I ended up sharing a mates bike for the day, it was a good day on the whole.

For anyone interested in doing it, here's my experience...

I haven't ridden a pit bike since I was about 13/14, so it felt weird to ride it at first, but you quickly adjust & start scraping pegs and boots.

Very fun and cheap lols. £35 for 10am-1pm open pit lane, you'll use about 6/7 litres of fuel IIRC.

You'll crash, well I did, twice Embarassed . It doesn't hurt as the chances are you're not going very fast. These little bikes crash very well too - crash it, pick it up, kick start it and off you are again as if nothing happened.

If you're going to go, use a fully functioning bike. A broken bike really does make it frustrating, as the bikes are slow as they are. Having a bike that's not running great just turns your fun into you screaming at the bike for it to go quicker.

They're pretty cheap for parts, but from what I could gather you tend to need parts a lot of the time. The general conscious was that they're not the most reliable machines, but they're basic and cheap to work on when something does go wrong.

Some photo's I took of the bike I took (my brothers) and the mate I went with on track:

I've only ever been to Kinsham once. I rode my TZR pit bike there years ago with Richard Cooper and his riding buddies.
Very good track. A little far out for me though. It's hours away. Sad

Pitbike racing is something I've wanted to do for a long time, everywhere/one always point towards going to www.nmrrc.co.uk to get started, but the website is old and doesn't get updated. Say you've got your bike and it's prepped etc, what really is the best way to start?

A few clips of Dam_Buster and myself having fun on our pit bikes.

His is now a YX184, fitted with a TB V2 Roller rocker head, ceramic bore. The engine is a fucking monster. It's 'Over-square' as they say, and revs like a bloody 2 stroke!
He's not rode it on track yet.

Mine is a 190cc Daytona 4v engine, another absolute creature of a motor. So much fun, but trying to keep the traction down through my little 10" wheels is difficult. I'm changing the rear over from a 100, to a 120 section next week as I struggle against the boys running 12" wheels on the fast sweepers. They can get so much more stability on the bigger tyre.

I'm at Kinsham again on Oct 2nd (Sunday).
If it's forecast to be dry, I'm gonna bring the 2-stroke along too for a set-up and play.
